I bought my first camera for £1 aged 6, a Brownie 127. My second was an Olympus OM1n with a 50mm f/1.8 which I bought from a car boot sale with £30 of 13th birthday money. It was (and still is) an excellent combination. I must have shot miles and miles of film with it.
When my BMPCC arrived, I hoped to find some compact glass that wouldn't require me to remortgage. I have a Speedbooster and some nice Nikon mount lenses that I use on both the Pocket and my BMCC, but I wanted to build a collection of primes that I could carry in my manbag alongside my 'need a lens to document the alien invasion when it happens' lens (Panny 12-35).
So decided to pick up a couple of old OM primes, initially the 50mm f/1.4 Silvernose (eBay, £60) and the 28mm f/2.8 (eBay again, £40). I have to say I absolutely love them. The 50 is pretty dreadful wide open (see below, 00:46 and 00:56) but from f2 (ish) and narrower it's fantastic. The 28mm is also wonderful. An unexpected feature of these lenses is that they don't breathe when you pull focus.
Naturally they both have fairly narrow F'sOV on the BMPCC, but I think they represent excellent value for money and they're extremely portable for those of us with meager spare volume in our 'manbags'.
