Hello! A few days ago my bmpcc 6k showed me a recording error. When i film with an external ssd right after I start recording it stops. The camera shows an exclamation sign in the red button, and it only records for around 00:00:00:25 seconds. I tried with another ssd, but the camera said that it needs to backup, but when i try to do it, it doesn’t work. I don’t know what to do, so if you can help me i’ll appreciate it a lot

Would be good to know the make and model and capacity of your SSD as well as the all recording settings when you experience dropped frames.

What is the camera firmware release? Is it a general release or the 8.6 beta?

I tried two different ssd models. Sandisk ssd 1tb and t7 shield 1tb. They don’t work in any recording setting, neither in prores 422. I was using the 8.2 version but yesterday I updated it to the 8.7. And neither of them worked. So I don’t know what to do

The Samsung T7 Shield (1TB and 2 TB) and the Sandisk Professional Pro-Blade SSD Mag 1 TB are approved for 6K recording BRAW 5:1 6K up to 50 fps on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. Also approved for 6K 2.4:1 up to 60 fps. Also approved for Prores 1080 422 HQ up to 120 fps.

It's a chain of issues.

First the camera has a variable writespeed (bitrate) depending on the detail in the scene. That makes testing more complex.
Then there's a limitation based on what port is used (USB-C, SD, CFAST) + transport overhead.
Then there's a writespeed limitation of the media used itself.
And then there's a capacity (and sometimes heat) writespeed limitation of the media itself.

Because BMD themselves do not sell a verified storage media, you will have to check out third party suppliers and figure out yourself what works.

It really is a mess to figure out.

BMD does have a "we tested this media" list somewhere on their webpage, but YMMV as third party manufacturers can change the spec and outdate the list, or the products might not be easily available in your area.

I concur that the Sandisk Pro-Blade solution is an extremely good choice.

I did thorough calculations on how to do the whole storage flow, and sandisk Pro-Blade comes out ahead in price and functionality in every case. Except the writespeed is a bit slower than CFAST, but it's still fine.
