Video-Assist 3G and BMCC 2.5K - SDI issue

PostMon Aug 26, 2024 12:54 pm

Hi,
I have a BMCC 2.5K (that I love) and use it with a Video Assist 3G.
But I have an issue with the mini-SDI input on the screen. I have bought different cables and always get the problem : when (barely) touching the cable, the Video Assist loses input for about 1 second. That's not a big deal for focus, but as I use a SD card to get a backup recording I'm a bit concerned.
Is there a solution ? Or a specific cable that someone would recommand ?
I don't want to use an SDI to HDMI adaptor since it would be something more to power and to rig.

BNC is a fairly robust connection if all that it takes is a touch to lose sync then you have a bad port or a bad cable.

Thanks for your reply,
As I've tested 4 different cables with the same issue, it means the mini-SDI input on the Vidéo Assist has an issue ? (I don't find the mini-SDI very robust compared to standard SDI)

Sounds like it. Do you have another SDI device to test the monitor and isolate the issue? Mini BNC is admittedly smaller and less robust but the cam is 10 years old. Is there any wiggle?

The problem comes from the mini-SDI input on the Video Assist, not from the SDI output of the camera, I've tested with my SDI to HDMI converter.
