Blackmagic Camera App Feature Request
Posted: Tue Aug 27, 2024 8:43 pmAbsolutely loving the app, but I feel like there's a couple must haves to take this to the next level for portability and functionality for mobile filmmakers.
1. Additional audio tracks from multiple sources: At the moment you can change your audio device such as from the built-in camera microphone or an attached microphone, but you can't use both. Because having failsafe alternatives can be so important for recording single take shots at locations that you can't get a reshoot later if needed, I always opt to record on my phone with the internal mic for the audio, then record my audio separately using a Zoom recorder completely detached from my phone.
Having the ability to shoot video but be able to choose both (or multiple in general) audio sources that saves to different audio tracks in the final video file would be a significant improvement. Then you don't need to match-up the separately recorded audio in post, and simplify the entire solution without needing to fumble around with hitting record on multiple places and just instantly have your different audio tracks in one file. This could also help by say connecting two different external microphones, and being able to record them all in the singular video file.
2. Support for gimbal controls: Right now all I can do is control record start/stop from my gimbal controls, when many gimbals now have many other controls. Many now are including a focus wheel, which using in the app would be incredibly helpful. A configuration panel where you can match various actions to different buttons/controls would do a long way, especially if your phone is on a mount or cage that you can't easily control while filming (especially if it's being balanced carefully on a gimbal). For instance, I'd love to use that focus wheel to control either manual focus, ISO, you name it. Compatibility with leading DJI and Hohem gimbals here would be a great help!
