BM Camera app - iOS vs Android versions.

PostFri Aug 30, 2024 4:39 am

How do the version numbers of the iOS and Android apps correlate?
I see v2.0.000016 in the Apple App store, but v1.2.something in the Google play?

I appreciate that some features will be different, given the capabilities of the two platforms, but is the expectation that the basic user interface (I'm talking mobile journalism here, rather than film making) will be consistent across the two?

Thanks in advance,
Ian

There are a number of differences still between the platforms and that's primarily as iOS dev started 12 months earlier than Android. As the Android catches up the version difference will reduce. See the tech specs page for updates following each release.

The iOS and Android app version numbers may be quite different sometimes because of the different release schedules, feature updates, and even the internal development processes of each platform. To give knowledge, if an Apple App Store had v2.0.000016 and Google Play had v1.2.x, that probably means that the iOS app has had some major updates or feature enhancements that the Android version hasn't yet received. While it is the case that certain platform capabilities influence the feature translation, the norm is still the same core user interface across both versions. This is especially the case in mobile journalism where a uniform user experience is essential. This consistency is of great importance to users who tend to switch devices. They can trust a similar workflow no matter the platform.
