Camera Update 9 not for Pocket 4K?

Am I right in thinking that version 9 does not work for the Pocket 4K? I assumed this was the final release following the 8.7 beta but although the software links to my camera it doesn't offer to upgrade the camera.

It kinda feels like they pushed out this update to get software ready for the Pyxis and Cine 12k.

Usually the latest firmware general release includes all previous general releases so that means we have a general release but not the beta releases. I’m not updating my BMPCC4K until the next camera general release that applies to the BMPCC4K.

I always update the BRAW updates though such as 4.2 so DaVinci Resolve can read the latest sample media.

I've not updated my BMPCC4K in a while. What is the most recent worthwhile firmware version?

I’m on 8.1. Some people have reported issues with that release and rolled back to 7.9.1 or 7.9.2.

It seems the way BMD does firmware releases is to put multiple versions into the one update. So v9 contains the latest versions for all the cameras.

The latest version for the 4K is 8.6. So v9 makes sure that 8.6 is installed on your 4K.

Odd but BMD does things their own way.

I went back from 8.7 to 8.6 [itself described as a Beta] and used the autofocus button to return the camera to that version. I then did the same with version 9 but the camera still shows 8.6, so 9 seems not to be available for the 4K.

For me, 7.9.2.

It’s only to add support to newer cameras, no more. Also in past we not have update for all cameras at same time.

The thing I think is confusing about this is that if I have a camera that's on, say, 8.6 and I download 9 and update the "normal" thing to happen is the camera's versioning gets upped to 9. That doesn't happen with BMD cameras. It's less confusing with other cameras because they have separate files for each camera. Thus a new update will always update the camera and the version in the camera will always match the update version. If it doesn't then that means the update failed.

So for BMD cameras it looks to many people like the update has failed. It's great that there's only one camera updater to download but it comes at this cost.

One fix for this issue would be for every camera to get updated to the level of the updater. So even if there were no changes in the camera's firmware it'd be clear to the user that the update had succeeded. I've suggested this before so I'm guessing BMD has rejected this idea but who knows - so I figured I'd mention it once more.
