Fixing corrupted footage from app v1.4.0
Posted: Thu Sep 19, 2024 4:19 amThere were numerous reports in late May of glitching footage when recording in the black magic app. update 1.4.1 resolved the issue but for those effected here is a solution to fix footage. I tried reaching out the Blackmagic multiple times -- no help which has been disheartening. I've found a solution that seems to resolve the encoding bug and restore footage! I was able to re-encode my footage (full 90 minute clips) using ffmpeg encoding to Lavf61.1.100 rather than Blackmagic Cam 1.4.000041. It's quite a simple workflow using the basic using % ffmpeg -I input.mov -c:v libx264 output_re-encoded.mov.
Really disappointed with blackmagic for not suggesting this simple fix to users. On their support channels you can see they were aware of the bug in Blackmagic Cam 1.4.000041 May 28th and released an update June 4th. I was shooting June 1st thru 7th. They should make it a priority to notify users in-app if they are aware of a bug that is not fixed and causing harm to footage.
