RIGGABLE INDEED!! 3 Rigging ideas with my Pyxis 6K (video)

PostMon Sep 30, 2024 2:20 pm

Hey everyone,

Since receiving my Pyxis a few days ago I have tested and built a few different rigs and kits with the gear that I had so I thought I’d share this with you today!

In this video I focus on 3 rigs of different sizes and styles!
These 3 kits are different in sizes and style but also in terms of weight, battery types, lenses and applications.

I am not saying these kits are perfect but they can give you a couple of ideas for you own so I hope it will be helpful.

All the gear is listed in the video’s description.

Let me know if you have any questions :).

Cheers,
Flo

I prefer #2 but the handle is too far back unless you’re hanging a V-mount. Top handles are a convenience but I don’t consider them necessary unless you’ve got a bunch of weight. Same with full cages, the advantage of a box cam is that one only requires a few ribs or plates to deal with 90 degree geometry in the absence of dslr like shape.

Good Luck

thanks for this, Flo. Ideas for rigging are always encouraging to know there's more than one way to do it!
I too, didn't realize how heavy the Pyxis would feel. After plates and other hardware, it sits right below an URSA Mini rig, just a bit smaller. It does feel VERY solid, so I'm trying to figure out how to rig mine with as little parts as possible.

Mid49, while top-of-the-line, is very pricy for me.
I'm currently trying out a mix of brands to make this work. Smallrig, Nitze, Proaim, etc.

Have you utilized Gyro yet with the Pyxis? I still haven't shot anything with mine, after owning it for two days, but I hope it all comes together soon.

Adam looking forward to seeing your footage!

I’m hoping you can provide some footage that doesn’t use 3rd party LUTs. Just some light grading with primaries to get a feel for what the sensor and image processing can do.

That’s a great idea, Rick.
I can setup a few shots and do simple rec709 or contrast and saturation corrections.
It would be good to compare the 6k FF with it too.

Thanks Adam. I suspect there may be some differences in image process with Pyxis compared to the BMCC6K given that Pyxis is not identical internally to the BMCC6K. Not sure but a test of the two cameras with minimal correction could be ‘very interesting!’

Flo, I decided on the XLCS cage. It was the most bang for the buck and seems to tick off all my needs.

I can't wait for the Pyxis monitor to compliment this setup, as I think a 5" or 6" screen is the sweet spot for this body size.
