A question for Blackmagic so hopefully someone is monitoring the forums!



In the launch video and this video Grant clearly says that the PYXIS Monitor EVF Kit includes the Ursa Cine top handle. However, retailers in the UK are listing it without the top handle.

Is the top handle included or not? Thanks

The URSA Cine Top Handle is optional with all Pyxis related products.

Yet Grant clearly says in the video that it's included. I can see some disgruntled customers and disputes with traders ahead if BM doesn't amend the video.

Some folks have already received their Pyxis, so they can correct my post if the Tech Specs page is incorrect.

I don't think anyone has got the monitor yet though, have they? The handle definitely doesn't come with the camera. From the launch video, only the most expensive monitor kit was said to include the handle.

Hopefully, someone from Blackmagic can jump in with an answer.

Top handles are never included in any of the URSA lines and it’s a separate purchase outside of any kit sold. I will venture to say that this is the case with the Pyxis as well.

There are concerns about the vent at the top looking pretty vulnerable. Time will tell when someone decide to shoot when it is raining.

Same vents style as with the URSA G2.

I used it on sports events, in deserts for rallye, some light rain. Never had an issue.

Time will tell, but I'm pretty confident !

I agree. That's why I am questioning what Grant says in the video and trying to get an answer from Blackmagic.

In Canada we have a few degrees of rainfall from spitting to light rain to rain to heavy rain to (torrential) downpour. I’ve often shot in brief light rain but seek cover before it starts to look like rain.

The only thing really exposed by the vent is likely to be the heat sink, exactly as on other BMD cameras. No need for concern in my opinion.

Ok, Blackmagic in the UK has confirmed that the top handle is not included.

Hopefully, the company will remove or update Grant's video as a matter of urgency before they get some unhappy customers and a visit from trading standards!

Its mis-selling from the boss's mouth or a mistake? Either way its an advertisement from BMD that they fail to honour.

When I buy I read spec on website or catalogue, I never base my buy on words on someone online.
I think this kind of is a waste of time.
No legal value the words in a video against spec on a official website

When its came from the bosses's mouth?

Kind of ironic since it is a filmmaking or videography content creating product that we cant rely on it to sell product especially one coming from the establishment itself

Are you suggesting next time Grant does an announcement live stream we should all go "Yeah right! Show us the fine print mate then we will believe you"?

In the UK, consumer protection law must be different. It could be an issue here.

Definitely tricky. If it's a statement from some tradeshow announcement video half a year away before pre-orders even start, like we sometimes see, I get how it wouldn't be an issue. But it seems like pre-orders went up immediately on this with this video embedded directly on the pre-order pages.

The OG Ursa Mini 4.6k only came with the side handle. I looked at the box to confirm.

The original URSA Mini 4.6K had an optional high quality URSA Mini (OLED) EVF and I think that option included the URSA Mini top handle as that was integral to the way the EVF was mounted. A bit rusty remembering that as I ordered everything together including that 250 Wh battery that’s held up well after eight years.

I have the UMP46G2 and the EVF does not come with the top handle. I had to buy the top handle separately. The OLED EVF for the URSA is separate.

I have perfect memory of this:
Original URSA Mini 4K/4.6K only shipped with the Side Handle. EVF was purchased alone. Top Handle was part of the Shoulder Mount Kit.
Same situation for URSA Mini Pro.
URSA Mini Pro G2 no longer shipped with Side Handle and it now was a separate purchase.
URSA Mini Pro 12 was same as UMPG2.

So the Top Handle was always part of the Shoulder Mount Kit for the URSA Mini line. All also required you buy your Battery Mount separately.

The URSA Cine is the first line to ship as a full kit with Shoulder Mount, Top Handle, Battery Plate, Media, and Case as part of the Kit. Then there’s also now a kit option with EVF in larger case to hold EVF for the UCine.

I hope that clears up that history.
