Was waiting for someone to do this...

Someone looking to see if the Pyxis mount actually is interchangeable

Does anyone with knowledge about how these things work know why they wouldn't theoretically be swappable by someone determined enough? I've honestly been confused since it was announced as to why they bill it as non-interchangeable but design it so that the mount comes off with just a few screws. And if it does work then at least it might give some sellable value to any Pyxises that inevitably break but keep their mount intact, even if it's best done by a third party company rather than by the general user - although it does look pretty simple to physically swap them.

I guess it would be good to have clarification from Blackmagic as to why it wouldn't work if only to prevent people breaking cameras by having a go themselves. Does the software stop working if it detects the wrong mount? Could some enterprising company create their own dumb mounts for the camera (looking at you PL) that could be swapped in?

I only like swappable mounts because I hate stacking adapters on already bigger mounts. For instance I ordered a PL mount but if I want to use a Sony lens on it I need a E to PL adapter...seriously increasing the length from lens to sensor.

E-mount has a very short flange distance, while PL is very long.
There'll never be an adapter for this. Well, maybe something with cheap glass, ruining the optical performance.

I mean, at this point Blackmagic should add an LPL option along with the PL after Arri just dropped those new Ensō Primes. They come in LPL, which is the new standard Arri will be pushing. So I think I will plan on the next PL lenses I get to be LPL. The URSA Cine works with LPL, so that's already a good first step. But if LPL will be the new standard then there should be a PYXIS LPL.
