BMPCC4K powering issue with Smallrig NP-F Battery Adapter

PostSun Oct 20, 2024 2:57 pm

Hello All,

I've had mine BMPCC4K for about a year now and absolutely adore it yet for past 4-5 months that's been putting my patience to test. The camera started turning off at random moments during operation or sometimes not turning on at all. It's been an absolute nightmare completely halting productions I was part of for hours and I'm really really hoping to solve it one way or the other because the general unreliability is making it impossible for me to do my work properly and generates general vibe of unprofessionalism on sets.

Details of the issue:
I'm working with Smallrig NP-F Battery Adapter on top I have NPF alternative from company called blueMAX (not sure of realiability of those) that are charged with blueMAX charger.
When the issue is happening the light indicator on smallrig adapter sometimes states green, sometimes goes red, sometimes blinking red to rule her.
When the camera is not turining on in the particular moment and the battery is attached there is a specific high-pitched sound coming from inside of the camera. Sometimes it's there sometimes not. Again no rule there.

When the issue is active attaching the adapter through 12V and 7.4V out gives the same result. Although would love a confirmation that indeed 12V is the one to be used for proper functioning of the camera.

Issue happens with and without the standard LP6 inside of the camera. Also would love to know with absolute certainty if it's recommended to put the LP6 inside or not while external powering.

I can assume that there can be several points where the issue is happening:
- my mistake within the whole setup (would love for it to be this)
- unreliable NP-F alternative battery generating the issue
- Smallrig Battery adapter issue
- Smallrig adapter cable issue
- internal problem of my BMPCC4K
- or it's an common issue and just time to bite the bullet and always run around with 8-10 LP6s?

I would deeply deelpy appreciate any assistance in pinpointing where the problem is lying and how to solve it.

I have to bigger shoots coming up which I was extremely excited about but now the anxiety of camera malfunction is absolutly taking away my joy of work and the technical side is absolutely blocking the creative pleasures.

Also as it's my first post here, being a silent lurker for years I would like to say I'm really excited to engage on the forum and looking forward to making some meaningful connection.

With love,
Filip

I am having this exact same problem with my Bmpcc4K. I have a SmallRig NPF Adapter plate, and I am coming out of the 12V side, going straight into the power port. I turn the camera on, with an NPF battery in the plate...and the camera turns on, but after a few moments...it shuts off. I am noticing that the AC with the lightning bolt is active on the top right of the camera LCD. But, it is NOT showing a full 12V signal. It's saying that the battery is giving out a 11.4V signal. Tried using the L6 regular and no problem. This is the 2nd time I have bought a SmallRig adapter plate, as I was having the same problem the last time I was using SmallRig. Don't know what to do in this situation, but the NPF batteries I'm using are the BIG ones.

OK, now I have a different problem: I have a V-Mount SE from SmallRig and I connected it to my Bmpcc4k out of the 12V plug...and the camera says, "11.7V". I tried another way to connect the power, with a D-Tap going to my Bmpcc4k out of the same V-Mount SE...and it says, "16.2V". ARRRGGGHHHH! Is that TOO much power for my camera? If I run it at 16.2V, will it fry the circuits?

The camera can handle that.
