Hi Blackmagic,
Just wanted to make everyone aware, not trying to dive into why I want to use higher allocation sizes. Just wanted to present what I discovered on the latest firmware (3.17 as of 10 November 2024) regarding it:
If your SD card is formatted with an allocation unit size greater than 2048 (so 4096+), the Video Assist 7" 12G HDR completely freezes up on you and you can only recover by removing the batteries, couldn't even hold the power button. Strangely enough the video feed is unaffected, so what is shown on the screen and out via HDMI still works, you just lose all interactive device specific functionality, no amount of touching will do anything.
This is interesting because I have the cinema 6k pro, and have my SD card and SSD formatted with an allocation unit size of 8192 (Since I do take photos with it from time to time.) and it works with that just fine. I didn't try anything higher than that with the camera, but the video assist I wanted the max 32768 unit allocation size but didn't get anywhere near.
That's all I wanted to share, and while I'm at it, do want to vent about one thing with these awesome products: It's unfortunate that the video assist doesn't support Blackmagic RAW for Blackmagic's own cameras, kind of crazy if you ask me, but maybe there's some really good, high-level reason for that.
