Dropped frames resulted in black screen footage BMPCC4K

I just shot a bunch of footage yesterday for a little project on the BMPCC 4k in pro res 422, or it might've been HQ

Anyways, the footage came back on playback and on the drive/quicktime as all black screen, but it did record and maintained the data and gb of storage. premiere shows it as media pending and won't even encode or make proxies. I haven't tried any optical workflow solutions yet on da vinci, but that is going to be my next step.

This problem occurred by having frames drop so the average frame rate on the footage is a mix of 24 and12fps resulting in about 18fps. This is a result of what i believe to be an internal hardware issue causing power supply shortages. I have not had issues with the exact same NPF batteries and storage on other cameras and on my camera if i have plugin supply there are no issues.

Is there a possibility the footage viewable somewhere or is it just gone?

Any help would be appreciated

If that’s not the Shield version, your SSD is not compatible.
Are you sure you shot ProRes or was it BRAW? If ProRes, you are out of luck.
BRAW can be saved to some degree by a complex operation.

That’s why I also set the camera to stop recording on a drop frame. I mostly shoot narratives so it’s more controlled and we can have multiple takes. If this was an event project and you don’t want to continue with drop frames, just be ready to have cuts and editing in post, or test, test, nd test the drives used.

Get rid of it. It's not compatible.

I just learned yesterday as well from the blackmagic customer support agent that the t7 is indeed incompatible but he also told me to download all the firmware updates. I was all the way back on 6.2 from 2019. Now having my camera updated to 7.9.1 I no longer have issues with dropped frames or blackscreens.
I shot new footage and it was all viewable on playback and the camera wasn't automatically stopping.

i tested braw and prores both with plug-in power supply and the LPE battery while using the standard t7.
This would explain while my buddies blackmagic wasn't having the same issue as mine.

Unfortunately the prores footage i shot the other day is gone, but I found an easy fix that won't result in me needing to get a new camera or send it in. It was dumb of me to think that all the playback coming back as black screen wouldn't have been a problem.

Moral of the story: make sure your bmpcc is up to date on firmware

You can still use it for your computer, just not for the camera.
