Blackmagic camera app/iPhone 16 "Recording Interrupted"

Over the weekend I traveled to a pristine location to take some landscape/hiking video. I'm using an iPhone 16 Pro. I have it set up with a Smallrig cage. It is connected to a USB hub. From the hub it is connected to a Samsung 990PRO NVMe M.2 SSD (1TB). I also had a Nitecore NB10000 plugged into the power delivery port of the hub.

I closed all unnecessary apps, and then opened the Blackmagic camera app to control the camera. The camera was set to Apple ProRes 422 at 4K. Color space: Apple Log - HDR.

I went wide angle (13mm) at 60fps. Shutter angle was set at 180 degrees.

It was a clear morning and the air temperature was 34 degrees Fahrenheit. I hit "record" and began walking the coastal bluffs on this gorgeous morning. Within 2 minutes my recording ceased and I got a "recording interrupted" message. The message goes further, "A large number of frame drops have been detected. Please allow your iPhone to cool down before you continue". May I remind you that it was just above freezing.

I tried seemingly everything to isolate and remedy the problem. Nothing seems to work. Different SSD, same result. Bypass the hub, same result. I even did “Reset All Settings” on the iPhone. No joy.

I'm aware that this could be an iPhone issue, and I'm going down that avenue as well. But I'm wondering if anyone else here has encountered this problem.

I’m at my wit’s end. Help!

If you used the same configuration but at 30 fps you are unlikely to experience the phone shutdown.

While cold outside, the configuration you had does heat up the internal processor.

I have the exact same issue, while only filming with 30 fps.

I have the exact same problem even though I don't have an external recorder. Changing the FPS or any other value has no effect. My other phone, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, works perfectly fine with the same settings.
