Blackmagic Camera App iOS - Recording Stopped Due to an Unkn

PostFri Jan 17, 2025 7:39 am

Am testing Blackmagic Camera App with iPhone 15 Pro Max, running iOS 18.1.1

Record format Apple Pro Res 422 HQ with Apple Log.

Records fine in camera or with SSD drive directly connected.

However when try to record through an external USB hub (along with other connected accessories monitor, microphone) onto either the SSD or an Extreme Pro SD card the camera will sometimes stop recording at around 30 to 40 second mark with the error message 'Recording Stopped Unknown Error' (hard drive icon and timecode on display will flash).

I am connecting a battery power source (but not sure if the hub is powered or not)

Any advice is appreciated thank you.

That seems to be problematic.
The Acasis hub with an integrated NVMe drive might be a solution (not tested).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I did some further tests today, the error seems to occur when recording Apple ProRes 422 HQ through the external USB hub, I can record longer duration video no problem if HEVC (H.265) is selected as codec, as well as longer clips in ProRes if returning on internal media in the phone

I thought Apple ProRes 422 HQ could only be captured with external drives but it seems fine within the phone internal media, was I mistaken about that?

If HEVC (H.265) is fine but not Apple ProRes 422 HQ with my external USB hub (tried both an SSD drive and SD card (Sandisk Extreme Pro 64 Gig 95mb/s) that might indicate a problem with high data rate through the USB hub? Are there minimum specification requirements there? I have checked in the Hub is actually powered up too with an external battery

This is my hub device - USB C Hub, RSHTECH USB C Dongle Adapter with 8K HDMI, 10Gbps USB C and 2 USB A Data Ports, 100W Power Delivery, SD/TF Card Reader, Aluminum USB 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 Hub for PC and Laptop, RSH-T02 : Electronics

The Acasis hub with an integrated NVMe drive as a suggested solution looked quite expensive?

Nothing wrong with internal recording in ProRes, neither with the highest data rate available in HEVC.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Hi! The BMPCC 6K Pro display is broken. I would like to connect my iPhone via the app to the camera. How can I see the pairing code if the display is broken?
