Possible issue with Ursa Mini SSD recorder

Newbie here, still a lot to learn but I'm a bit stuck and wanted to ask for some assistance.
I have a UMP 12K OLPF, firmware version is 8.1 (which as far as I can tell is the latest firmware for this particular camera). I have the SSD recorder* mounted, fully charged Smallrig V mount battery installed.
I haven't used this camera at all and set it up for the first time yesterday - very carefully followed all guides to fit the SSD recorder and the V mount plate.
Here's the issue, I wanted to format the SSD I have - it's a Crucial 2TB MX500. The camera appeared to be doing as asked but it was taking an absolute age to do anything and showing no signs of actually achieving anything. In the end I formatted the drive using my Mac Disc Utility to format to OSX Journalled. Then I reinserted the SSD into the recorder, as before it sees the drive but when I select it the screen then shows "verifying" - it doesn't change no matter how long you leave it, still showing verifying.
I have an old 256GB SD card so just for a laugh I tried that - the camera formatted it with no problem at all and records to it just fine.
I suspect the issue may well be with the SSD drive itself rather than the recorder so I've ordered a Samsung EVO 870 2TB which I'm now waiting for.
I've also tried using a couple of other SSDs I had kicking around, a Western Digital and a Samsung - same issue as with the Crucial, seemingly taking forever to format, gave up, formatted with the Mac, then when in the camera I get "verifying" again.

So, has anyone else experienced this and am I right in thinking it's related to the SSD itself?

BTW, the camera and the SSD mini recorder are both brand new.

Thanks in advance for any tips. Cheers

*the SSD Mini Recorder is the newer type with only the USB C connector rather than the two cables

Well, my replacement SSD arrived yesterday - Samsung 870 EVO, plugged that in to give it a try and found I had the same issue. I couldn't believe that the SSD was still causing the issue so just for a laugh I tried connecting it directly using an SSD - USB C adapter cable plugged straight into the camera. The camera sees the SSD, formats it without any problem. This indicated that the problem lay either with the MiniRecorder or the SSD cable.
I next tried using a different USB C - USB C cable in place of the BM one that came with the MiniRecorder. Problem resolved - camera see and formats via the MiniRecorder without any issue, it even formatted the original SSD I tried (the Crucial 2TB one).
In short, it appears that the BM cable supplied with the brand new MiniRecorder is faulty/dead on arrival.
Now I just need to source either a replacement BM cable (I like the security screw feature) or a suitable one from a different supplier (the one I'm using at the moment is far too long). I'm looking at either Angelbird or Kondor Blue - does anyone have a tip for me?

Thanks
