BMD iPhone App: Turn Off Denoising?

PostSun Feb 23, 2025 12:11 pm

Hello

The BMD iPhone App (or Apple behind the scenes) applies very strong, unnatural noise reduction. Is there a way to turn it off? I'd prefer noise, no matter how strong it is.

Thanks!

I didn't find a possibility, neither in any other app.
It is a tiny sensor, and Apple is forcing it on us not to get devastating reviews by unexperienced folks. The good low-light quality in photos is achieved by integrating multiple frames, which is not possible for video.

A Sony Alpha, even with a full-frame sensor, is doing just the same, albeit on a far superior quality and lower light level. If you want a 'honest' camera, get a BM or a Red, they show you all the noise that's available.

Alright, yeah, it's sad that they don't even give us the choice...

I have BMD cameras. And I love noise. Shot a project on 12k ISO on the Pocket – loved the aesthetic it produced (even though hard to grade).
