Focal Reducer, will this fit BMPCC

PostThu Apr 24, 2014 7:12 pm

Will this focal reducer fit the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0689103350

The items description says that the optics extend 7mm in to the camera body.

The depth is about 7mm, may hit the sensor of some cameras such as G1

Thanks,

Brian

Yes, it should fit. I have an RJ Focal Reducer (EF mount) and it's great! Some other Metabones-knockoffs have an issue where you get a blue spot in the center of the image in some lighting conditions. The RJ doesn't seem to have this issue. I paid £80 for mine.

Thanks Christian

The youtube video shows a BMCC camera. Was this your camera or do you have a pocket?

I am just wondering if the flange depth is different.

MFT flange distance is same for both Pocket and Cinema camera, as they use MFT standard.

I think there is some variance here. However if I am reading correctly (google search) Black Magic Cameras have more room for optics going into the camera body than regular Micro 4/3.

Check this out

Note that the new Speed Boosters will only attach to Blackmagic cameras equipped with a Micro-4/3 mount. They cannot be attached to standard Micro 4/3 cameras.

but crop factor reduction is not the same. with the metabones BMPCC speedbooster it's 0.58x with the bmcc speedbooster its 0.64x and with the m43 speedbooster (or any other chinese copies) its 0.71x

The different speedboosters were designed to match the sensor size of the respective cameras. The multiplier can be smaller for the pocket, because of the smaller sensor; if you could mount the pocket speedbooster on a bmcc-mft, you'd see vignetting with most any lenses. Same is valid for the bmcc speedbooster in comparison with other "generic" m4/3 speedboosters.

I know. But i was replying to the op who asked if a generic focal reducer would fit his bmpcc. While physically that should be no problem, the lesser reduction in crop factor might something he/she is not aware of. As far as I know there is no "cheap" generic focal reducer specifically for the bmpcc sensor size - like the bmpcc speedbooster.
