Setup new Camera 6k - SETUP ICON NOT WORKING

PostMon Mar 17, 2025 4:50 am

Im trying to complete the setup of my Gen 1 Blackmagic 6K. When I start the "Black Magic Camera Setup", clicking the icon does nothing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled over 3 times. I tried an older version too.

Can anyone provide a suggestion?

I am experiencing the same exact issue when trying to connect a BMPCC 6K Pro to update firmware from Version 8.1 on Windows 11. The button will not do anything no matter how many times it is clicked.

I was having the same problem too (new bmpcc 6k pro in the last few weeks) and figured it out.

If you download the latest version it doesn't necessarily have the latest for the 6k pro, so you need to go back. I tried the 8.7 public beta version and that worked for me. I haven't fished through if there's a more recent version or not.

The latest firmware for all cameras is included unless it's a Beta version.

+1
Even reinstalled 4 previous versions of the software, deleted the camera each time from the device mgr on Windows. I changed usb and usb-c ports and wires multiple times. The icon is still not pressable.
Waiting for the updates of the other users with the issue.
Not solved still

I have both a BMPCC6K Pro and a BMCC 6K. The Camera Setup app (Windows 10 Pro) works fine for the CC6K but nothing happens when I click the button and the PCC6K Pro is connected. They are both detected fine by Windows and by the application. Using Camera Setup v9.5.

Open to ideas... or maybe it's a bug in this version of Camera Setup?

BTW, My understanding is that the Camera Setup utility has all the latest firmware for all of the BM cameras and each release, of course, does not update every camera. I know v9.5 is NOT for the BMPCC6K Pro - it's for the BMCC6K. Still, I don't think the button should do nothing -- in fact I can connect my BMCC6K and bring up the setup page anytime (and it's up to date).

Also, does anyone know where to check the firmware version on the BMPCC6K Pro? I can't find it in the camera.

I have the same issue on a Mac.
I downloaded prev Camera Setups and they all say the camera is uptodate.
The new 9.5 Does not seem to read the current version of the firmware (8.1) nor do i have the option to upgrade it.

A new version was released today (30th April 2025) This does not fix the previously reported issue of not being able to update the BMPCC6Ks from 8.1 to 9.5.

This new version is for the URSA Only.

Just to save people downloading it and trying.

While the newest version of the Blackmagic Camera App is 9.5.3, it contains all of the newest firmware for all the cameras. It does not mean your camera firmware is 9.5.3. It will only update it to the newest firmware, whatever it is.

TL;DR - there is no firmware 9.5 for the Pocket Cameras.

I found a solution for now just use the camera update 9.0. It worked for my 6K Pro.

I'm having the same issue!

I will preface this by saying I'm a long time Lumix user, and I picked up the BMPCC 6K Pro for the first time 5 days ago, I'm very new to this ecosystem and I'm doing my very best to upskill as I'm in a new job, with new equipment and I need to move quick.

My BMPCC 6K Pro appears (camera model detected) on my iMac in 'Blackmagic Camera Setup', but when I click the icon to check for updates, nothing happens. I don't get an 'update available' and I should as its Firmware V8.1.

As the camera is currently set to V8.1, and should be able to take V9.5.2 (V9.5), but it's not working? I've tried 9.5.3, 9.5.2, and finally 9.5, and I'm having no luck.

Our team requires the ability to have auto-focus functionality, so it's a great feature to now have available, but frustrating we can't get it to work.

Am I missing a step?
