I am considering which monitor to get for my PYXIS. I like the flexibility of the EVF kit. But do I need the top handle to use the EVF mount? I can't work out how it attaches to the top of the camera without the handle.

Yes, you definitely need the top handle.

No you do not need the top handle. You can get other rails and mount them to the Pyxis monitor. The NATO Rail Side Plate for SmallHD will work with the Pyxis monitor as well as other Small HD accessories.

There are some threads already about this, but you can use a small 70mm nato rail and attach with m4 screws.

I use this Condor Blue clamp, which gives me basically the same adjustments as the EVF mount for the Pyxis, but with my Shape D handle and a 15mm rod.

These Camvate rails should be compatible with the Pyxis monitor mounting holes.

I don't think we really know yet since the handle hasn't been released. We all assumed before the Pyxis monitor got released, it would mount differently than it does. Took us all about a day to cobble something together and now we are all good and don't necessarily need the OEM mount. I'm sure when the handle is released, it may be the same if something isn't standard, though I expect the handle doesn't need anything else to mount since it replaces the existing side mount and makes the Pyxis more "camcorder" like record and zoom control (if your lens supports it).

Update. The Camvate/smallHD rails are absurdly close to the same mounting points, but no cigar. Apparently the Blackmagic mount on the Pyxis monitor is unique and compatible with absolutely nothing else.

The smallrig nato rail fits with two m4 screws.
