Micro Studio 4K G2 Stereoscopic Camera

PostFri Apr 18, 2025 4:34 pm

I would like to make a new thread to share my experiences with the MS4KG2 Camera for stereoscopic shooting.

It started with a first side by side setup for testing. I shared the result in this youtube video made during the Busan International Short Film Festival.

We have a 3D section at the BISFF festival, so I want to encourage young filmmakers to experiment with 3D movies and I share my ideas hoping we can welcome new innovative 3D movies in the future.

I make a workshop regularly to motivate young filmmakers for 3D. However, I also know that often 3D is expensive and has additional costs. Wonderful professional solutions exists. However for young filmmakers who want to work on a budget, I want to share my Ideas. I hope I can see your movies and welcome them at our festival.

I open this thread for those who are interested and want to contribute and help around this topic.

One of the first things I would like to share is the double remote control using the REST API to control two cameras. More information about this tool can be found here:

https://github.com/stereo3d/bm3dcam

I am working on a DIY beamsplitter rig with components you can find on ali express. I also work on the monitoring solutions, recording on SSD and many other things.

I am happy to share information and ideas on the topic.

If others are interested I will continue updating this thread with all the details and progress.
If you have any other Ideas, comments and experiences please share it here.

I turned my Ipad in a stereoscopic control monitor. The two Blackmagic cameras respond very well. I have integrated the lens and camera settings inside the monitor. It allows for different viewing modes: left, right, anaglyph and side by side.

I share my experience :
Every year I make film of show at the end of the year for several ballet schools and I did several stereoscopic films.
I use 2 BM camera studio plus. I juste put the camera side by side with same lens reference. I launch the record manualy and I synchronize clip when video editing. Finaly I generate a side by side video.
The result is a nice video with a good 3D effect.
To do that, I just build a plate to put the camera side by side. No more material.
I think that next year, I will do that with two pixys cameras and generate a side by side 7680x2160 video (because with camera studio I need to crop to synchronise position of video so I generate a 3840x1080 video)

Have a good day

small description of the the development of the 3D rig and control.

I made a training 3D workshop for film students at the Busan International Short Film Festival.
During that time I made a demonstration and 3D screening of footage shot with the BM MS4KG2 camera.

I am curious for feedback and I will work on further improvements.
