Hi,

Camera v9.5.2 for only the Cinema Camera 6K is now available on our website.

This release fixes the issue with CFexpress cards not detected on some Cinema Camera 6K cameras.

Thanks

Kristian

Huzzah! That did it. It now recognizes my CF Express cards. Thank you to the Blackmagic team for getting this fixed.

Not a single info on the BMPCC cameras. RIP to them then!

Lol - Not sure if this can be classed as a "quick fix" been an issue for over 6 months. But thank you Blackmagic for making the camera have "normal behaviour" again :D

Is there any chance you can add the same shooting resolutions/crops that the 6K Pxyis got, to keep polarity between them?

Hi, I’d like to clarify a doubt. I have a BMPCC 6K that I wasn’t using, and I wanted to test the update with Autofocus. I downloaded the update, connected my camera, it updated, but the activation for that mode doesn’t appear, and the Webcam mode doesn’t show up either. What went wrong?

Warning:both the 9.5.2 and 9.5.1 releases (and possibly others) seem to be downgrading BMPCC 6K OG cameras to 8.1 (the camera in question was previously running 8.6). After this happens, the software cannot communicate with the camera, and I have to uninstall it and downgrade all the way to 9.1.3 before it would talk to the camera again and upgrade back to 8.6.

It would be great if 1. there is a list somewhere about what camera firmware versions are included in each release (because the release version is basically meaningless), and if the updater would show both the old and new firmware versions before initiating the upgrade so that the update can be aborted if something doesn't make sense.

There is two different camera, the BMPCC6K and The BMCC6K ( full frame). The autofocus is for the full frame, not yours.

It seems to be a BM strategy to simply stop supporting older cameras that are still available.

My BMPCC is only 1.5 years old and no longer receives updates...

The URSA Mini Pro 12K is similar - you should really consider whether BM cameras are really a worthwhile investment when the support and product maintenance are so poor.

There seem to be no more updates for the BMPCC.

If you buy a BM camera, don't expect long-term product support.

There are the 8.6 and 8.7 beta updates which I believe are coming out as two 9.x updates. Beyond that we have no way of knowing.

9.4 is for the BMPCC line and
9.5 is for the BMCC 6K

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding but in order to use the Autofocus update on the BMCC6KFF you need to be on beta 9.4? Because when I updated to Camera Update 9.5.2 it vanished. Did I maybe do something wrong?

You’re correct. 9.4 is for the bmPCC line and 9.5 is for the bmCC line (currently only the 6KFF).

I’d think that since both 9.4 and 9.5 are in beta that 9.5 would include 9.4’s beta but I guess you’ve discovered it doesn’t.

If you look at what version firmware you have installed according to the camera it’ll probably be an early version of 8.

Hi Joe, I'm very new to Blackmagic cameras. I'm in a new job, and as of 5 days ago I picked up my first BMPCC 6K Pro. I'm familiar with Lumix, but working very fast to learn this camera.

My firmware is V8.1, and I'd like to get us auto-focus capabilities.

I tried to instal V9.5.3, 9.5.2 and 9.5 and the Blackmagic Camera Setup app detects the camera, but the check for updates button does nothing. I'd expect the "camera update available" screen to pop up.

Can you advise whats the issue. Does this realte to the 6KFF you mention above, asuming what I run here isn't that? Is the FF 'fullframe'?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated mate

Thanks

Your Super35 camera does not currently support continuous autofocus. Perhaps you should take a look at the BMCC6K that does support continuous autofocus with a large format sensor similar to 135 film.

Thanks Rick. Appreciate your advice and insight here.

I'm in a new job, and there's gear that people here dont know how to operate, selected and purchased by people that arent doing the creative work.

We don't do cinema workm, and I personally dont think this camera is overly ideal for the projects we work on. However I can see it's a very capable camera and one that will do a great job as our primary shooter.

We have staff that want autofocus, because they aren't skilled at focus pulling.

Anyway, not your problem. I'm in day 8 of a new job, learning all the gear they own, like the BMPCC 6K Pro.

My last question, and I think youve answered above, will this camera we own here ever have the ability to have an auto focus firmware added, or is it that the sensor and internal hardware can't support it at all?

Someone can correct me if needed, but my understanding is that this sensor won’t be getting continuous autofocus in the future. If the camera was a recent purchase, can you exchange it for the BMCC6K?

Thank you Rick. That makes sense, howvere its a shame to learn this. We do have the DJI LIDAR, which can provided auto-focus when rigged with the DJI-Ronin. I'm yet to set this up.

It's tricky being handed new equipment, by a team that doesnt undertand how half the gear works.

The camera is a well over a year old and I don't think they want to exchange it if they could. I'll learn to work with its limitations.

I find limitations can often bring out the best creative solutions.

That’s a great attitude. The greatest skill of any DoP is how they respond to any problem. There’s only one option: success.
