I'm sure this has been asked before and apologies if this is the wrong forum. But I have a 12k cine camera on the way and still have a lot of Super 35 glass. I'd LOVE it if they provide more resolutions for s35 glass outside the only 9k resolution they currently have. Maybe a 4.5k and 6k? Would REALLY REALLY appreciate this feature update...

As you know the 12K LF also records 8K and 4K with the same FOV as the 12K.

The cropped Super35 frame FOV is 9K. One would think that a future update might support 6K and perhaps 3K enabled with the same FOV as the 9K. I agree one or both of those recording options would be welcome to reduce media usage while maintaining the 9K FOV and 16 stops of dynamic range.

4.5K would also imply use of another sensor crop to match a Super16 FOV. I think that would not be on the table unless BMD also offered an ENG compatible B4 mount option. Now that would be super sweet and I’d like to see that as well with 16 stops of dynamic range.

These options would be very significant upgrades to the capabilities of the Cine 12K LF and the Pyxis 12K LF. Nothing that we can count on happening so I wouldn’t make any present-day purchasing decisions based on what might happen in another year or two, but would be most welcome as unexpected features.

When the BMPCC4K camera was given firmware upgrade 7.3, I thought that was so significant, it was like giving a ‘new’ camera to existing owners. Your requests would have that same reaction. The reinvention of the BMPCC4K has helped it be a camera that enjoys a long life and is still sold as new. Very capable and economical. I’m certain the Cine 12K LF and Pyxis 12K LF are destined to be sold as new for many years in the future.

Some of these options may require tweaking of the hardware internals to accommodate new firmware, but only BMD knows if that could be required.

While they do monitor the forums, it might be useful to get one more voice on the record directly with them as being interested in this feature. Blackmagic has a really good track record of listening to their customers, as Rick pointed out sometimes even years after a product release.
