4,299 x 2,417 Pixels of the 12K sensor comes out to being the same physical size of Super 16mm. And, as my recent video proved; there's a ton of detail available in S16 mode…
And, there is a lot of amazing Super 16mm PL glass that is out there. This could be a great mode to have for both the URSA Cine & PYXIS 12K. The quality is there... It seems logical that a good 4K Super 16mm mode is an equally popular choice to have.
Total agreement with this sentiment. I’d love to see a B4 native mount or better B4 adapter to L-mount if that can be done so the camera can take ENG style lenses too. Traditional B4 mount normally has a 48mm FFD and 55mm inside diameter of the mount which is wider than L-mount but there’s room to make it an optical adapter too as BMD has done with other cameras.
If there was an B4 optical adapter, with about 1.1x magnification, then the 4299 pixel horizontal resolution would be increased in area to fit the 4.5K half size of the 9K Super35 capture (9408/2=4704x3132 pixels for 3:2 aspect ratio. Aspect ratios could be based on approximately half 9K values:
4704x3132 3:2
4344x2448 16:9
4656x2448 17:9
4656x1932 2.4:1
3840x3204 6:5
If BMD didn’t want to use an optical adapter, then resolutions would be smaller than those above. You won’t see exactly a 4299 resolution for capture, but 4304 is divisible by 8 and very close to that Super16 reference.
