Would love to start a topic about crop modes that would be appreciated in the URSA Cine 12K:

6K~ Super35 as the 9K is lovely but too beefy when 8K/4K is ideal for storage.

Also some sort of Super16 mode would be perfect for using S16 glass. I can imagine the readout speeds on this could be near global speeds.

Maybe there is some other crop modes that would be ideal too?

I already requested this in this thread: URSA Cine & PYXIS 12K Feature Request: 6K S35 & 4K S16

I have no idea how the math works, but would 4.5k s35 make more sense based on halving the already existing 9k option?

A 4.5K resolution would be Super16.

4.3K SUPER 16MM MODE

4,299 x 2,417 Pixels of the 12K sensor comes out to being the same physical size of Super 16mm. And, as my recent video proved; there's a ton of detail available in S16 mode. Video below to remind you:

And, there is a lot of amazing Super 16mm PL glass that is out there. This could be a great mode to have for both the URSA Cine & PYXIS 12K. The quality is there. And, it meets the minimum 4K requirements for most streaming platforms.

I know it's one more mode to add. But I'm sure plenty would love it.

And, I think everyone would love the ability to shoot Super 35mm in 6K on both the URSA Cine & PYXIS 12K. It seems logical that a good 4K Super 16mm mode is an equally popular choice to have.

Total agreement with this sentiment. I’d love to see a B4 native mount or better B4 adapter to L-mount if that can be done so the camera can take ENG style lenses too. Traditional B4 mount normally has a 48mm FFD and 55mm inside diameter of the mount which is wider than L-mount but there’s room to make it an optical adapter too as BMD has done with other cameras.

If there was an B4 optical adapter, with about 1.1x magnification, then the 4299 pixel horizontal resolution would be increased in area to fit the 4.5K half size of the 9K Super35 capture (9408/2=4704x3132 pixels for 3:2 aspect ratio. Aspect ratios could be based on approximately half 9K values:
4704x3132 3:2
4344x2448 16:9
4656x2448 17:9
4656x1932 2.4:1
3840x3204 6:5

If BMD didn’t want to use an optical adapter, then resolutions would be smaller than those above. You won’t see exactly a 4299 resolution for capture, but 4304 is divisible by 8 and very close to that Super16 reference.

Super 16 is basically the same as 1” which puts it halfway between mft (4/3”) and 2/3”. B4 lenses will only cover about 3k without extenders.

Good Luck
