Rode Video Mic Pro (connection issue)

Can anyone give me any indication as to why i cannot get audio to directly record to the BMCC using a simple Rode Video Mic Pro and a even simpler 3.5mm to 1/4" jack like that you would find in a set of headphones or similar. (i bought a pack of 2 for $5)

The camera recognises that there is a something in the audio port as the built in mic cuts out but still isnt picking up any audio signal.

Is there a different cable/connector that i need?

Sorry if this is a double up post but i had a search of the forum and couldnt find any posts helping with this issue.

Does the mic need power? The BMCC doesn't supply phantom power. That's the only thing I can think of besides faults cables, etc.

The Video Mic Pro is powered by a simple 9v Battery so it shouldnt be that.

im using a Rode NTG2 with no issues. since you're using power, it could be the plug? are you using a balanced jack?

Are you sending it +20db from the mic itself?
