Request for the few lucky BMCC owners.
a testing of the Samyang 35mm 1.5/T lens on the camera.
Supposedly it's a fantastic lens, was just hoping someone happened to shoot using it, but alas, I can't find any...

i have shot with it. i don't have any footage up at the moment (there is footage up with the 24 and 14, but not the 35). i can try to get some shots over the next day or so.

did you have any specific questions about it?

how about the crop factor with the 35mm, decent?

Daytime performance: effective DoF with no filters, is the what cause me to raise my eyebrow questioningly.

crop factor is another, light fall off another still.

Marco Solorio at One River Media has been using it. He has a review on his blog. His is actually Rokinon but thats the exact same lens as Samyang.

He had conclusion to go with Canon L if possible as Samyang was always softer and had some color spill.

I'm sorry, but he didn't say that. Here's the quote from the end of his article:

He prefers the Rokinon. There are many more places in the article where he says he likes the Rokinon better for shooting with the BMCC.

Yes but as you see this sentence has 2 sides.

It really depends what you are after.

I bet both options are fine but like in other thread it is better to have some extra sharpness and dial it down
and not have some extra softness.

But it will definitely depend on user preference.

i'm in exactly the same boat. i'll use the Samyang in most situations over my L or my Zeiss - mostly for convenience and being definitely 'good enough'. if i have content worthy of the best lens possible, then maybe i'll consider getting at least a set of cp2 or some nice anamorphic...

the crop factor is really tough on 35. slightly more FoV than an 85 on a full frame or 50 on aps-c crop - great for close ups etc. but as with all lenses they either fit a purpose - or you adjust a style to match.

sounds like something Colin Chapman would say if he designed lenses instead of cars 'simplify... then add Sharpness'

can I see some samyang 14mm samples which shot with bmcc? I couldn't find any!

I got the Rokinon 14mm Cine lens for my BMCC.. just waiting on the camera.. but I have used it on my 60D and I really like it! It gives the 60D a more natural (dare I say filmic?) but very detailed image compared to the uber-tack sharp Sigma 30.. I imagine it will spend a lot of time on the BMCC.. with with my Sigma 30.. and Canon 17-40L at the ready.
If I need something better (or need to impress a client) I'll build a zeiss CP's set into the budget..
