BMC for music videos

PostMon Nov 19, 2012 11:33 am

Hi everyone!

I am planning to shoot music videos with the BMC and I'd like to know if anyone is planning the same thing or if anyone thinks that there will be problems with the FPS or any other problem with the workflow, or if someone had already shot one...

(Maybe this could be the thread were we can talk about the BMC for music videos...)

Thanks!

Phoenix28..
People aren't responding because most of us don't have our cameras yet... The camera is shipping in limited quantities at this point so not that many people have it yet.. and the ones that do are still kitting it up and familiarizing themselves with the camera before putting it into service.. But I think you'll start seeing more and more folks getting their BMCC's in the next few months and will be able to comment.. I'm sure this camera will see plenty of use in many types of productions including music videos!

It most certainly will, Bill. Music videos is one of the things I do and I will definitely be using the camera for that. Advertisements, movies, television shows and documentaries are all coming up next year and I fully intend to have most of them shot on the BMCC.

Yes...maybe it's my english that is bad!
My question was intended to be more technical, especially as regards the FPS, given the fact that often the music video is run at twice the speed, which with the BMC can not be done. I was wondering if this could be a big problem or not...just wondering!. And then, the second end of the post was to create a thread dedicated to the BMC used for music videos.

The BMC will be more then fine for music videos. when the 5D Mk2 first came out it didnt do 60 or 48 either and there are thousands of music videos with out it. I Take it from me i have shot and directed over 200 music videos. you don't always have to shoot with slow-mo its good but not necessary all the time.

I am!

To be honest, my current thoughts about the limited slow motion (30fps for 25fps 83% slow motion) is that it will actually force me to make the shoot work with a normal real time frame rate and not "rely" on shooting slow motion shots.

That being said, if I need slow motion, I can rent an FS700 or something.

That's true there is always a work around in most cases if the budget absorb it. My guess if when cameras are not in backlog and shipping we will see alot more firmware updates, ones that we have been ranting and raving over or for months. Blackmagic design is a great company who seems to want to do whats right not just what everyone else is doing thats just my .2
