I am planning to buy a SmallHD DP4 EVF and it supports only HDMI, component and composite. I just want to ask that is it possible to use it with BMCC through a SDI cable with a component adapter?
Thank you...

Yes, but why would you want to. A monitor that accepts hd-sdi would end up cheaper than buying an evf and an sdi to component adaptor.

I feel myself more comfortable with an EVF and I don't meant a kind of converter, just an adapter like mount adapters. It should cost a few bucks to me I thought. And the EVF is 600 dollars with its bundle.

I don't know that there is a simple HD-SDI to component adaptor. It surely has to be an active (powered) converter ?

For what it's worth, I just bought a DP4 as well and will power it with the Sony NP series batteries with the Atomos connect S2H converter attached which is also an NP battery. Makes for a simple switch from sdi to hdmi without the need for component.

I just made a quick search and I thought a converter is the only solution and I could buy a BMD battery SDI to HDMI converter and powering it from switronix pb70's p-tap.

There are passive SDI to HDMI converters available on the net for around $50 US.

http://www.bmcuser.com/showthread.php?1 ... -converterA sub $50 running on the BMCC, video is on page 4, it won't be as good as the BlackMagic design converter, but it will do the trick.

Unfortunately its not physical connectors (going from a BNC to RCA connector) that is the issue here.
You can't feed an SDI - serial digital video signal into an analogue (component) input.
Hence other members suggesting converters, you'll need one to actively convert the SDI signal into component. As some members point out, a much more common/logical solution is to go from SDI>HDMI. Blackmagic do a range of battery converters, I have one myself.

I was also looking at the smallHD DP4 as I already have and love the DP6. But you need a powered HD-SDI to HDMI convertor like the Atomos Connect or one of the Blackmagic products like the Battery converter:
http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/product ... onverters/For me this just added additional elements that I did not want (and added cost). So I went for the Alphatron EVF made by TVLogic. It have both HD-SDI and HDMI input and output.
It's great. The battery cover sucks tho. Only thing I miss from the smallHD DP6 is the Focus Assit Plus.
smallHD said they had an HD-SDI version of the DP4 in the works but it's never materialised. I think they have been working on the DP7 tho...

But I think alphatron don't have false color.

The Alphatron has False Color (They call it Zone Check (Luma Zone Check)) and Zebras.
You also have custom control over the levels at which the zones are. So you can customise how the False Color appears.

They most certainly do.
And two user selectable zebras as well.
