Awesome. So when the camera ships properly, we will be getting it with some great new features which will be giving us a better experience. I can't wait. Hopefully it's got some important stuff that was "missing" that we all wanted.

I would be very happy to see :

1. ability to delete clips
2. f-stop indicator
3. ability to delete clips
4. audio meters
5. selectable framing guides
6. ability to delete clips

of course, until I get my camera, it makes little difference, and that isn't going to be anytime soon since I didn't order back in April.

cineform raw would be just amazing. 12 bit bayer data but at the data rate of close to pro-res! Add that with the amazingness of meta data grading and the general slickness of cineform in general and this would just blow my mind!

I kinda of understand the not being able to delete clips in camera issue, if it is a fragmentation issue (as has been suggested elsewhere on this forum...) but I'd REALLY at least like the option of formatting the drive in the camera

Someone else suggested being able to mark the clips as NG (No Good) for bad takes in the metadata so they didn't get ingested later. That'd be nice... One of my old Sony DVCAM cameras (DSR570 maybe?) did that...never used it though as you had to have chipped DV tapes...

Available record time on the SSD. At least calculate it based on recording format between takes (like Canon does it). I think this is super important and it rarely gets mentioned.

In addition to all the added functionality, I would like to see additional refinement in the boring areas of metadata and essence management on the drive itself. Reduce length of file names as much as possible, user entered metadata extraction tools as XML or ALE and not just in the WAV file, an AMA plug-in by either Blackmagic or Avid to extract this metadata from the clip based formats of ProRes or DNxHD, etc.

But it certainly helps the post process to not have to think about all these things...

EXFat now! Macdrive seems very unreliable to format drives on a PC.

Did they fix the 35L/85L/24-70L YET ????

If you haven't fixed those you've done nothing yet!

Is there a method to show cropmarks? This is something I'd consider very helpful.

Well, alright. Some good news.

12bit ProRes4444 would be awesome

File management, lens support and EXfat would be my top 3. Everything else is gravy! (for me)

I would love to see a more in-depth menu system like the RED EPIC/Scarlet, so able to delete clips, adjust shutter angle in smaller increments, false colour, Aspect Markers, Zebras, WFM, Histogram, Compression Ratios for RAW so 3:1, 18:1.... ect.

We actually did a test shoot with my camera this weekend and it is outstanding. I really with it had an f-stop indicator. If the sun is very bright it is hard to eye it. Also and audio meter would be nice and I really think record time remaining would be fantastic.

It's interesting. I don't understand why 12-bit ProRes isn't offered when it's still about 3x smaller than raw yet provides the same bit depth. Is there some licensing restrictions? Was it just one of those "choices"?

Granted the 444 is not as vital as the Bayer sensor can't produce enough chroma resolution to make 444 worth it, but the 12-bit surely makes the ProRes option a more formidable alternative to raw.

Yes,

and since BMD considered recording at higher frame rates
(rumors said that sensor overheating is the problem here, not the CPU),
there might be enough CPU power to encode 12bit ProRes4444.

So IF the CPU could code ProResHQ at 50fps,
THEN it should be able to code 12bit ProRes4444 at 25fps.

At least crop marks, but it would be nice to learn if 4:3 mode is at least being worked on, as it affects my choice of lenses I would consider for purchase.

i think it would be fair if this post just died now. no need to speak about an update or mentioning of it for a camera thats not out to the general public yet. and then just to tease on top of it. no real info just rumors. next time show us or keep the lid on it. no need to agitate people still waiting on there camera.

Mr. Hughes has a point. At this juncture, to this customer, it is counter productive to rave about a new update then imply that no details are allowed to be discussed. The camera is 6 months past due and promised updates are not being given. What is this...some sort of a sadistic game? I mean REALLY!

So mhood if you HAD a camera would you be interested to know the latest firmware or would you show a world class example of solidarity and refuse to even ask about it until you were certain everybody else had theirs?

So it isn't demeaning enough that we beg for updates? You now expect us to beg for firmware specs? I'm saying just publish the firmware specs...don't filter them through a chain of a chosen few lucky enough to know the firmware specs but (for some strange reason) not able to be specific.

Possible? It's virtually certain. This is the strangest PR strategy I have ever seen in my life.

i was in initial resolve program and i knew some people that were to.

so we did have details that we could not share.

so i do not blame people that have been chosen to program to know something that the public does not.
it comes with a cost. it costs your time and effort to support the product in development or testing.

so i would not be upset specially as we do not have cameras here.

i see it on a forums here and creative cow that people do not appreciate
stuff that are still in progress so it seems to me great idea to have them hidden until released.

Reading your posts here and elsewhere I have never agreed with your constant whining but I have to agree with this. I think people that have the camera and post some cryptic 'boy oh boy' excitement about some undisclosed firmware is childlike attention getting gloating and a slap in the face to those waiting for the camera.

just saying, pay for a camera that i don't have then tease me about all the cool new updates??? i have no problem waiting. i don't want to be told how cool an update is when the camera itself isn't delivered. and then don't tell me what the updates are. i will continue to work on my scripts till the camera is out. and hopefully it will be ready when i am ready to shoot.

If it upsets you then don't click on the thread that says "updates" and suggest killing it. I'm sorry you don't have your camera, but I have one so why shouldn't I be curious as to what the updates are?

Surely it's a positive thing that they are continuing to update and improve the camera dispite the hiccup to manufacturing.

BMD haven't said a single thing about the new firmware. It was me. I simply said there was some cool stuff coming on twitter. It wasnt an official announcement, and I'm not a BMD spokesman and am generally very restricted in what I can say. This however is not them running a PR campaign. It was me, being excited about where things are going with the privileged insight that I have working within the bounds of what I'm allowed to talk about.

If I'd said nothing, then BMD would simply release the new firmware and everyone would know about it when that happens.

BMD run a very closed and tight shop. In the way that Apple manage to keep most things secret, it is the way BMD "choose" to operate. You might hate it and disagree with it. But it's their company. And they aren't like other companies. They very much do things their way and that is their right to do so. If you don't like it then don't support them by buying their product. If they promise something that they don't deliver to you then cancel your order.

Yelling and screaming about what is "right" isn't going to change their mindset. I'm sharing this because I know these guys. The fact that they don't "talk" leads to suspicion about what's going on. I think they're ok with that given that this forum is one of the most hostile I've ever participated in. They let it all stand, for everyone to read. Right now, I can barely bring myself to even bother to respond here to those that have genuine questions about the camera because every response is turned into a discussion about shipping. Yeah it's frustrating. We all know and share that.

The fact is, they are working on stuff. Wheels are tuning. A new version of firmware shows this is the case.

BMD don't talk about manufacturing. You will never see a photo of the assembly line. No one even knows where the cameras are made. They will never ever say how many cameras they can make a week. You will never get this kind of information about this camera.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with this but explaining because BMD don't explain why they aren't communicating.

I'm just stating an undocumented BMD policy. I'm trying to explain that this is at the core of how BMD are. Whatever your expectations are of a customer relationship is, they have their way of doing it and this is how they do it. To jump up and down and demand answers won't change their way.

Quite frankly, I was amazed that Grant himself started posting. And when he does post, he goes into a lot of detail that I wouldn't expect from any regular "big" company. And he doens't even choose to respond when told he should resign from the company he built from the ground up.

They have been around for a long time. Clearly they have done well enough using this approach to become as large as they are today. These guys are different. They haven't gone to PR school or management school to learn how to do this. For better or worse.

What they are very good at is listening and innovating. They just don't look like they're listening. They just dont talk about it. They let the gear do the talking. So the fact they can't even do that right now means theres an apparent silence.

Look at the new firmware release and even the one that is to come. It shows that they are listening and that they can react very quickly, especially when all the processes are under thier control ( like software dev).

I put a preorder in based on the reputation of the gear and software already available from BMD. I'm happy to wait for them to get this camera right and ship it when they are happy.

Totally agree with John that jumping up and down demanding info is bringing down the value of this forum. It should be for discussing and helping one another with getting the most out of the tools made by BMD.

I understand the frustration of waiting... I'm there to but getting agressive and demanding aint gonna help the situation. If you hate it, cancel your order or pipe down and sit tight.
