If you want to use an HDMI monitor/EVF you will need to get an HDMI to HD-SDI converter like the Atomos Connect or Blackmagic Battery Converter.

I have the smallHD DP6 (HDMI & HD-SDI) and love it. The AC7s look really nice. I'd get one with HD-SDI as it would be less hassle than adding a converter.

it's sad it doesn't include a waveform/vectorscope..

I guess they leave that to the DP7 Pro.

I ordered the AC7-OLED-SDI, primarily as I want a monitor with really good color reproduction and contrast. Talking with SmallHD support, the monitor is setup out of the box with a rec709 characterization lut but in the future, you could likely have a lut from bmd film (encoded in a rec709 signal) to the monitors native gammut and contrast. OLED panels can actually reproduce that much contrast and dynamic range.

On that front, the big difference between the AC7 and the DP7 is the DP7 will have cascadeable luts that are also applied to the SDI passthrough.

My focus puller friends really like the high brightness version though.

I just sent my DP6 in for the SDI upgrade and I'm pretty psyched. I haven't seen what their newer models look like in person but the DP6 has been great for me. I'd recommend one of their battery mounts to go on the back too. It makes for a nice a tidy rig - monitor with it's own power and one SDI cable going from the camera to the monitor.

But wouldn't the false colour feature on AC7 do the same as a histogram for under and over exposure?

A histogram tells you how much of any given value you have, not where in the image it is coming from.

The one with SDI in. If it has waveform, even better.

Hmm, I will get one of those too.

I wonder can these smallHD montors also be powered with Switronix PB70-BMCC battery, leaving the BMCC on internal battery?
Best would be to power both the BMCC & the monitor.

Cheers

The PB70 has 2 additional 12v outputs.

The smallHD DP-6 can be powered by a D-Tap to 12v cable and a standard 5-18v input range.

So both the camera and the monitor can be powered from the PB70.

Thank you for that information. I'm happy. =)
I had the item in front of me, but could not figure it out.

Has anyone tried a SmallHD monitor with this cheaper converter? http://www.amazon.com/EEEKit-Bundle-Dis ... CORQ6B3FAS

Hmm, it says it can do 1080p.. but BMCC has more resolution.

We are using the DP6 with HD-SDI and using it on the BMCC. We have the 2 "quick" function buttons programmed to run 1:1 mapping and then False Color for over/under exposure. The BMCC Focus Peaking also shows on the DP6 fortunately.

But while shooting yesterday, I realized that the DP6 False Color is probably set for Rec 709 values and not for the BMCC "Film" mode with it's greater exposure latitude. I came to this conclusion when I was getting a lot of reds (overexposed areas) on the DP6 False Color, but no Zebras showing on the BMCC monitor that were red areas on the DP6 monitor. (Had BMCC zebras set at 100%).

(by the way, the DP6 is discontinued already).

I thought the BMCC outputs at exactly 1080p through the SDI? viewtopic.php?f=2&t=813&start=10

I've never kept up with Lilliput, as they've kinda been on the lower price scale/feature part of the market. But an SDI in monitor at sub $600 is fascinating. Though the initial resolution can be a little disconcerting.

It'd be cool for someone to take it for a test run on the BMCC! :D

Best on the market, also includes scopes, puts it above the AC7 due to that.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/8 ... I_LCD.html

I, like many others, don't have the BMCC in hand so I'm building my kit around my 7D until I get the Cinema Camera, just got 2 Rokinon Cine lenses, Coollights Portable Flo and a few other things. I asked basically this same question here a couple weeks ago and ended up going with the Ikan D7W (which I just received this past Thursday).

I was going for the AC7 OLED, I had a shoot this weekend and they would not have made shipping (2-3 week delay), plus with the D7W I gained scopes & saved roughly $400 (apprx. $1607 vs $1200+shipping, which I purchased the 85mm from Rokinon with). Besides that the fact that I don't even have the camera yet, I'm coming from the Lilliput 5D-II/P with 1024X600 which means either monitor would be an upgrade. So I ultimately figured the OLED wasn't actually necessary at this point and also note, for whatever its worth, that the AC7 only has SDI loop-through, not HDMI. HDMI is input only.

Just my 2¢

By the way, I just used it on a shoot this weekend... works marvelously!!
