I prefer the constant f/2.8 of the Tokina

I have also a doubt:

Is the Canon EF 24-105mm F/4.0 L IS USM ($819) a good option for the BMCC?
I have a budget of $1300 dollars for new lenses and already have the Tokina 11-16mm.
With the Canon 24-105mm I cover all my focal length needs, but not sure if it is the best choice.

I use this lens a lot on my 5D Mark III. I love it and the IS will work on the BMCC! Basically, I will be doing the opposite of what you're planning. I already have the Canon 24-105mm and I'm planning on buying the Tokina 11-16mm to cover the wider focal lengths. All my other lenses will be primes.

My issue with the 24-105 is the distortion at the wide end. There are ways around this, but I would personally go with the 24-70 if I had to choose. Add the 70-200 in the future and you truly will have all of your focal lengths covered.

You can compare them here:

In terms of suitability for the BMCC, the faster and constant aperture of the Tokina does seem to be a better fit, but what lens do you plan on using after the 16mm focal length?

I own that lens for my T2i, but I don't have my BMCC to test it on. Its a great walk around lens for the price. Plus it has an IS built-in, which might work. However my gut is telling me to avoid using that lens on the BMCC.

This web comparison site is amazing! The 10-22 is definitely soft compared to the Tokina. However the Sigma 8-16mm is surprisingly comparable to the Tokina. The Tokina definitely has more purple fringing but less barrel distortion. The Tokina's strength is in the center frame, making it great for the BMCC.

Funny as my gut is saying get this lens because I ordered the BMCC EF version.

1. It has IS Built-in (Will probably work on the BMCC)
2. It has a longer zoom range than the Tokina 11-16mm (That I'm also getting).
3. It's on sale, and Has Great Reviews.
4. With the Crop Factor on the BMCC it will use the "Sweet spot" of the lens.

I own a full range of Zeiss ZE & ZF lenses,
But this is a viable option for a wide Zoom on the BMCC.

The Sigma 17-70mm is now on sale for $299
If the IS works on the BMCC this would be a good lens for the EF version of the BMCC

Price: $449.00
Instant Savings: -$150.00
Offer ends JAN 15 '13
You Pay: $299.00
