Guys, I've started uploading some ProRes files.

Might take a while, but I have to go out so I'm leaving them uploading.

I've got some clips in FILM that replicate the DNG's and in VIDEO where I have them.

Fantastic; thanks for making ProRes files finally available!

For those of us who can't (or, in my case, won't) use Google docs, might it be possible to make the ProRes files downloadable from BMD's own site as were the 1st set of CinemaDNG files here:

Only played with the first one so far, but the "log" prores are definitely a different look/feel to the raw. But i think i really like it!

Will get my hands on one tonight and post a frame or two, John. I've already graded some of the ARRI LogC files by Blackmagic so if it's anything like those then that will confirm ProRes to be a serious shooting format (which I already expect it to be anyway).

BMD has a bunch of ARRI LogC clips for testing Resolve.

I am Looks like Google Drive has a limit too.

Too many users have viewed or downloaded this file recently. Please try accessing the file again later. If the file you are trying to access is particularly large or is shared with many people, it may take up to 24 hours to be able to view or download the file. If you still can't access a file after 24 hours, contact your domain administrator.

Yeah, i got the same error for the second clip. Hopefully Blackmagic will mirror the clips on their servers?

Just tried film 1.. got the error... i only have film 3 so far. The page title is "Quota exceeded".

Graded it directly in Final Cut Pro X with one colour corrector and an subtle unsharp mask plugin.

No noise reduction.

And here's the settings. They're obviously pretty far out because of the log source (except for a 1% magenta tint on the colour board).

Quota exceeded for me too.

I graded a little bit using Color, since I can't use Resolve(I have a ATI card in the pc). Just awesome, I'm doing a coloring work with 5D now and this is just in other level.

Bump. (Just to get this thread on the 1st page where it belongs. This footage is awesome!)

From my "raw" grade (Resolve 9 b3):



Prores 'quick matching' my raw grade:



Prores more 'stylized' grade:



Raw definitely feels more 'raw' (ha) and there's more separation in colours. Most noticeable in the hair, the prores version i struggled to get the hair to be a different tone like it naturally is in the raw. Plus the skin in the raw just has more colour variation to it. But i think it's easier to get a stylized look with prores since colours are more uniform. Either option is very compelling though. Thanks again John/Blackmagic!!

Thanks, Captain Hook, for the DNG versus ProRes grades. Very interesting to see how close, yet different, the results are. Hope we have more people do the comparison using the identical frame for each grade they compare. I agree with your comments but do tend to favour the complexity of the skin tone in the DNG grade.

Yeah, the skin definitely feels more 'real' in the raw.. but that might not always be the best thing to tell the story so it would depend for me. Another factor being how much footage vs hard drive space there may be for a given project.

You know we have the technology to show every hair follicle and every blemish on a closeup. But who really wants to see that in a creative work? Yes, perhaps too much reality can detract from a story. When we enjoy art, we enjoy that "willing suspension of disbelief" and accept the painterly world of 'film' becomes our reality for a time out of time.

Given the storage requirement can be met, it is appealing to start with all the detail possible and then adjust the image to a desired result in post. Even if that promotes the creation of illusion. But it's not necessary to begin with DNG to achieve that, since the ProRes looks very good too and will speedup post and reduce costs.
