Perth City - Low Light Camera Test

PostSat Dec 29, 2012 3:15 pm

Hey, so here's a low light camera test I did with two of my friends while walking around the streets of Perth. Shot using nearly entirely available light except for the car exterior shots, which were lit with small Ikan LED kit.

Unfortunately, the compression turned out really bad when I uploaded it, so for those keen to see, I've put up a few ungraded stills from the shoot. Download them here: www.joelcranephotography.com/teststills.zip

Technical Info
Shot on:
Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens
Tokina 11-16 F2.8
Switching between 800ISO and 1600ISO.
Recorded in ProRes with Film Curve.
Entirely Handheld or on basic Shoulder Rig.
No Denoiser, Stabilisation or Rolling Shutter Fix has been applied.
Basic grading in Speedgrade, still trying to hold onto the shadows and highlights as much as I could.

Very nice!

Where you on the internal battery the whole time?

Nah, I was using my rig with V-Locks powering the camera and dp-6 monitor for most of it, except for the couple sneaky handhelds Tanya or I got when the camera was de-rigged.

Does she look so sad because she's in Perth? I had similar such nights in Perth. And in Kings Park to boot.

Whenever someone asks me to describe Perth I remember that line from John Birminghams He Died With A Falafel In His Hand : "The bucket bong arrived in Perth in 1980 like it had always meant to be there.... something in the psyche was waiting for it"

Though people tell me Perth's gotten much better since I left.

Looked good!

Last I heard, Parliament was in the middle of making that part of the state mandate.

I personally find your current Location rather interesting as I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and my brother was born in Kal, and you've obviously spent quite a bit of time in Perth, where I now live. Kinda worried you're stalking my family dude.

HA! At least Cleveland's got decent BBQ. And they got some chicken and waffle thing that's pretty scrumptious. Where I am (Bellville) they just eat dirt. But I'd kill everyone in this state for a kebab from Cosmo's in Northbridge. If it's still there. :P

There's not one in Northbridge, but do you mean Cosmo's in Leederville? If you do, it's still there. Actually had a kebab there the other day. And now I'm really in the mood for some falafel...

And please don't kill everyone in that state. My Grandmother still lives there. It'd be a shame to have to swear a blood oath to avenge her death. I'm awfully busy and I really don't know where I could find the time for that...

Leederville! Thats it! Tuesday session at the Leederville Hotel followed by Hip-e-club and followed then by Cosmos. Good times! Or was it a Thursday session? We're talking 15 years here. Nice little indie cinema there as well. Luna, I think.

Don't worry about killing's. I'm the only person in my town without a whole bunch of guns. Place is crazy.

Maybe it was better 15 years ago, but now I try to stay well clear of the Seedy Leedy Hotel...
And Luna is still rocking hard. Had a couple films I worked on screen there the other night. Was pretty epic seeing them on an actual cinema screen. :D

I recorded this in ProRes not RAW, so I can't post any DNGs, as I there are none to post... TIFFs are pretty much the best quality I can show you.
