Hi everyone,

just looking for information on the Tokina 11-16 focus issue – has that really been resolved by blackmagic's fix? Can anyone confirm that? Are these Tokina lenses still prone to infinity focus issues?

Thanks a lot!

I had an interesting experience with my Tokina 116/Speedbooster setup. My first Speedboster was Nikon/MFT version and my Tokina was sharp across the entire zoom range. I haven't used it for a while and when I put it back on the SB I was shocked to see that now it's soft from 11 to 14mm. Moreover, at 15-16 I could achieve sharpness only at f4 or higher. I looked up the forums and it turned out that many Tokina owners experience the same issue. But at the same time some report that their lenses are OK. Apparently, the Tokina QC is to blame. I checked several samples of Tokina in a friendly camera store (both versions I and II) and all had the same soft-focus issue. I was baffled.
SUDDENLY, I realized that my sharp Tokina footage was shot before I swapped my Nikon/MFT Speedbooster with Nikon/BMCC version. Since I already sold the MFT SB, I had to buy a new one to test it. And I did. And on that MFT my Tokina is sharp again, across the entire zoom range - on both BMCC and BMPCC. Perhaps I just solved the problem affecting many Tokina owners.

Hi everyone.

I am planning to buy BMCC 2.5K EF and Tokina 11-16mm. I found that Blackmagic fixed that issue but it requires to send the camera. Some people (Mostly the people that buy the camera after blackmagic announce that fix but doesn't send it to get fixed.) said there is no problem with the camera and that lens. I am wondering that is Blackmagic send the new cameras already fixed? I mean if I buy new Blackmagic 2.5K EF, is it works perfectly with Tokina 11-16 or do I need to send it?

I have another question that probably silly. This fix has no negative effect on lenses those already working with BMCC (and has infinity focus), right?

Thanks.

Baris, if you buy a new BMCC EF, you will have the change already in place and all your lenses should focus as you would expect. The only drawback is the the focus marks on your camera are not going to be where they should be. Not many people would rely on focus marks on the EF mount.

Does anyone know if this issue also occurs on the BMPC 4K or just BMCC? Looking to buy this lens in the near future, second hand. No exchange policies.

I'm sure the BMPC4K EF has the same relaxed flange focal distance as the BMCC. it does have a PL mount option that will be precise.

[quote="Nilscrompton"]Below is a PDF of the process I followed to 'fix' the infinity focus issue on my Tokina. Previously my lens would only focus to ~5m - at f2.8 and 11mm, now it goes well past.

Do you still have the pdf instructions?

Thanks in advance

The 3 screws tip solved my problem

Now my Tokina focus to infinity at 11mm

Before, the infinity focus was 5 meters maximum

Do you happen to have the instructions? Christian's blog has been down for a while and I can't wait to fix my lens.

If you or anyone else used Chrome at some point to access the instructions, you could try accessing the browser's cache and maybe share the guide with the rest of people who need it?
It's easier than it sounds; just google "viewing chrome cache easy way" and follow the instructions.

Thanks!

EDIT: Christian's blog is back up! The new URL is the same as the old one except you replace /blog/ for /lab/ (can't post links)
