Kjell, not sure what you mean but thanks for letting me know. I had over-corrected some of my grades that produced some weird artifacts in the leaves, but I thought I got rid of that problem.

Do you mean the strange bokeh on the fence I shot through? I noticed the uprights had a soft creamy bokeh when the background was consistent and bright, but the posts did look weird sometimes when there was a lot of mixed bright and dark background in that there was something like Einstein's gravitational lensing happening with the bokeh broken by vertical bands of light.

Could you be more specific, such as at what time in the video and where in the frame you noticed a problem?

Nice test Rick, and no off color cast on the edges or vignetting. Congrats.

Yes my first thought was over correcting artifacts. I dont think the grade looks extreme except from the artifacts though...
You can see it somewhat in all of the scenes I think, but its evident in the first scene in the really green grass field in the lower middle of the picture. Its easiest to see when you rack to 5,6".

Well my attention was on leaves. When I look at the bright green field, the artifacts are dancing all right! Thanks for pointing that out. I'll see what I can do about it. Thanks for the feedback.

Edit:
After reducing the Colour Boost back to zero and reducing Saturation from 60 to zero and knocking Contrast down from 1.5 to 1.1, it's fine now. So many things in that frame seemed good, but the really green field couldn't withstand much of a change. Need to be more subtle!

Someday I'll upload the corrected grade, but I have other things to upload first.

I sent a reminder email to Jane at SLR Magic to send me the invoice (I needed it revised as I'm not purchasing the adapter at this time) and they sent me an email (alongside a PayPal notice) within an hour or two. Now it's up to me to fulfill payment, then the lens will be on its way. I'll let you guys know what happens, as well as a report on the length of time it takes to ship from China to Texas, but I don't foresee any problems. The PL-related items I ordered from eBay a few weeks ago from Poland and Ukraine arrived very, very quickly. I believe I will be mounting a 50mm APO lens to my BMCC within the month...more to come! :D

Perhaps as early as next week! Looking forward to hearing what you think once you've had an opportunity to give it a go. If you post images or video, let us know what filtration you put in front of the lens.

The SLR Magic Vari-ND and B+W UVIR Cut give an almost neutral look to me on my Mini 4.6K PL. I know I need to test images with and without the filters just to see... Now where can I find an evenly lit white wall around here?

Absolutely.

My tests are always "I just go out and shoot a short film" because I can't stand pixel-peeping emotionless charts. I'm always about the drama...so I'd prefer a lens that doesn't rate so well on a scientific chart but certainly is flattering for the talent and makes their skintones pop. Kind of that "Cooke look" thing that people find hard to describe sometimes...lenses that have a bit of personality...I can't stand boring lenses. But, you can certainly take a sharp, neutral lens and use filtration to make things interesting. Hollywood Blackmagic and ProMist on a CP.2, for example. I like to take the edge off. Vilmos Zsigmond is my hero.

Anyway, I need to spring for some Firecrest IRND, apparently. Line up some models and shoot something.

Here’s another test with the Mini 4.6K sensor comparing ProRes 444 HD recordings with ProRes 422 LT UHD. Interesting tradeoff between higher quality 12bit ProRes on a low resolution HD recording and lower quality 10bit ProRes on a higher resolution UHD recording. Any comments? For the upcoming wedding shoot with the 50mm APO, at this point, I plan to shoot the higher resolution ProRes 422 LT UHD when the camera is handheld so I can stabilize in post for HD delivery and shoot the ProRes 444 HD when the camera is on the tripod.

Ryan, they are available. For example, as a three lens set from B&H Photo for $8,500.

Nothing like that APO 50mm for the money and it whets your appetite for the next APO: 25mm and 85mm! Need to stop spending so I can buy those in the fall.

Just heard over on BMCuser that the timeframe of the next lenses' release will be 85mm in 3rd quarter (means late September I think) and 25mm in late 4th quarter (means late December I think). I thought they'd both be released by early 4th quarter as a three lens set. I'm wrong. If this means they both can include a front filter thread for the SLR Magic Vari-ND, that will help.

Cool. Just wondering because I've received items from all over the world and they don't always have a tracking number...or I can't track what they sent me because I don't speak bjusjaknejdksnskm or whatever the language is. But, yeah, it's totally the weekend in China. I'm just wondering the time it takes...not that I'm in a rush, just curious. If it showed up next week I'd be super surprised.

At BIRTV, NewsShooter is reporting a new product, the Image Enhancer Pro. I opened a new thread for that. But the exciting news for this thread is that the 85mm and 25mm APO primes are due to begin shipping at the end of August! And... wait for it... the new primes include filter threads (according to NewsShooter who viewed the almost production prototypes)! Thank goodness for that.

Received some information about availability and it would appear to be close to what I thought before the suggestion both lenses would be available at the same time. Now I believe the 85mm APO will begin to be available in October and the 25mm may be as late as December. Both could be earlier of course in limited quantities. I'm picking them both up as soon as I'm able and will add the IE Pro 82mm. Don't know the thread size of the new lenses, but I will make it work with the SLR Magic Vari-ND Mark II via another brass Heliopan step-up ring if needed.

Going to be another year probably to have a six lens set, but time will tell. The extended ramp up period for equipment suits my budget limitations, so I'm not complaining.

I don't know the specs on these new lenses, but if anyone has them and can share the numbers, it would be good to know the filter thread sizes on those lenses as it takes time to order those step-up rings.

I'm assuming the IE Pro screw-on filter will also accept something screwing onto it as well.

My order with the IE Pro 82mm and 85mm APO has shipped! I won’t be able to resist changing mounts and giving it a go next weekend. Should be able to post some images in a week.

On the 4.6K sensor, windowed in 2K 16:9, that 85mm lens will have the field of view of a 270mm lens on 135 film. Should be useful for sports. When SLR Magic issues a 135mm APO, that will be like 430mm on 135 film. Better for sports if I can keep the camera steady.

I'm sure you're legit already. I'm just along for the ride!

Sadly, I'm not expecting my 85mm APO to be delivered today as it has not been released by Canada Customs due to a valuation issue with the invoice. It's here, but UPS can't deliver it. The issue will be addressed by SLR Magic hopefully quickly but the issue didn't arise until after the end of business hours in Hong Kong, so I'll need to wait another day.
