Black Magic power supply interface

I am in the process of designing a cage rig for my BMCC when it arrives. I will be posting images of it soon for general interest. So far it is balancing really well and should create a wonderful platform for hand held.

Can anyone tell me what the power interface is on the camera? I am suspecting it is a standard 2.5mm barrel connector from what I can see in the images. It is clearly not 4 pin xlr.

For my hand help, run and gun configuration, I plan on using Ikan BP2T-SU battery plate that accepts Sony BPU batteries which are rated for 14.4volts, the same I use on my Sony F3. This as back up power when the internal battery gets low.

When I move to studio mode I will use V lock battery plates on my rails that I have configured with both 12 volt and 7.4 volt outputs.

thanks for any help. Here is an image of the plate. I can rewire another terminal on it if this is not the correct one for the camera

Yes, it's a pretty standard 2.5mm x 5.5mm DC jack.

So one can plug in any source battery that is in input voltage range then more or less as
input plug lets you make custom cable.

what i mean is if the amperage is not a problem one could feed car battery to dc in pretty simply
and have power like for a month ;)

Hi Margus,
A DC electric appliance (like the BMCC) will require a certain voltage ( in this case 12 -30 volts) and require a minimum amperage to operate. (the BMCC requires 2.5 amps). If you feed 12 volts with 10amp capacity for instance, the camera will still only draw 2.5 amps for its needs. So you can exceed the requirements for amperage in your source of power just not fall short of it. For the battery plate I show it will use a Sony BP-U60 battery which has a rated output of at 14.4 volts @3.9 amps. Plenty to run the BMCC and quite compact for run and gun.

yes i get the low amp thing but my question was if i feed it with really big battery.

i'm not that home with electronics calculation :)

this is why i pointed to car battery as it has really big capacity.

it doesn't really matter the size of the battery. the bigger the battery the greater the capacity of the amperage. a truck battery is bigger than a car battery because the starter for a truck requires greater amperage to turn over the engine but you could use a truck battery on a car as long as both of them are rated for 12 volts each will only draw the amps they require to turn over the engine. So for the BMCC you could use a car battery, a v lock or Anton Bauer battery or small sony BPu batteries....as long as they are all rated for the correct voltage the amp capacity won't make a difference (as long as it meets at least 2.5amps @ 12 volts)

Does anybody know how long the ikan battery solution will run the camera for?
