Very nice Tim. Looks like the G2, BRAW, and the Vespid are a match made for this picture - soft yet vibrant colors.

Thank you Ellory! Yeah, the Vespid is a wonderful match with the G2 and BRAW. I did the Color Science 5 switch in Resolve and used the new HDR Palette to grade the images in Resolve. It's an absolutely wonderful workflow.

I'll be very interested to one day put the Vespids on to the 12K sensor. In time I'm sure I'll do that. For now however I'm very happy with the entire set up with the G2.

I can't remember if I shared this or not, this was a short film shot on the Ursa Mini 4K for a candlelight challenge. I ended up shooting in RAW with my 24-105mm at f4. If I had a wider, faster lens, I'm sure this would look better, but as a test of how the camera does with just a candle, I'm impressed.

I am beyond honored to have had the opportunity to be the Director of Photography for the short film "Precognition", written by Jonathan Gonzalez, directed by Jesse Fraire, and produced by the amazing team at Tower Productions!

Jesse was interviewed by Think Shorts, and you can check out the film and interview at the link below.

Got another video for you guys. This one was shot in February, but since it was a free shoot I did for a charity event I had to get to post when I had free time. Was shot with the UMPG2 and the DZOFilm Pictor Zooms. Real run and gun. Edited in DaVinci Resolve 17.

Hi! This is a little (very little) proof of concept for a feature i’m planning on shooting next year (if the pandemic finally ends).

Shot on the Pocket 4K using the Sirui anamorphic lenses (24mm, 35mm & 50mm). All practical lighting.

Original music by yours truly.

Hey guys,

Since lockdown slowed a lot of productions, I wanted to do a piece where I would only count on myself to do a short film in my place. It sounded so cool on paper, but I ended up calling my gaffer to help me on a couple of shots that needed some camera movement (I couldn't move the camera and be in front of it at the same time). So I directed, DP'd, acted, etc on this.

I'm still trying to bring it down to 15min to be more festival friendly and I wanted to get your opinion on this short film. Shot on Ursa mini 4.6k.

Hey guys,
A few days ago I woke at 4am to drive up a mountain to witness the sunrise, high in the French Alps.
This is the footage from that morning, with voice over.

Shot on the BMPCC 6K Pro and DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
(Timelapse with the BMPCC6K)

These were the views that we saw as the first light touched the mountain peaks in the distance.
It was definitely worth the early start!

Shot in 6K Q5. Reverted back to Gen 4 in Davinci. Exported as Prores 422 UHD.

I hope you enjoy this format.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments :).

Cheers,
Flo

Shot with my 1st BMCC and my BMPCC4K mostly. Some clips from an old Sony of my late father.

the cinematography is spectacular. your visual storytelling is very solid too.

my only critique is towards the "anticipation" scene with the gun. it doesn't feel scary/suspenseful for me - probably because the protaginst is way too powerful here. the intercut with the hero and door handle doesn't quite work for the same reason. the danger is just too vague and inadequate, without any potential for an explosive action; there's no evidence of Anton Chigurh on the other side

also, I would shorten or even skip the shots with the hero checking the handgun as it feels a bit corny. but that's the matter of taste, of course

Thanks for watching. What you say about the anticipation scene of the intruder opening the door is actually a pretty good critique. When I was shooting it I was hoping to create an ambiguous feeling, which was the fear that he might actually shoot the plummer or someone "inocent". But I didn't see the scene from the protagonist's perspective and I totallly understand what you're saying. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks Tim!

Front of the car we had a Genaray Powerhouse with a soft box and a single Blue layer of plastic tablecloth material (as I don’t have any gels, haha).
The rear light (red) was a Falcon Eyes RX-18TD set to 4200K with three layers of Red plastic tablecloth.

Whatever works, right?

I guess so. Yeah, sadly I lost my color effect gels recently. Gonna have to spend some hundreds of dollars to replace them.

Yeah, another model video. I have some other stuff I shot I can't share yet. These model videos are easy and simple. Met her for half a day shoot on a Sunday. Edited it in a few hours this last weekend as I packed and got ready for my trip back to VT. Yes, I plan on getting foliage footage with the P6K Pro.

Anyways, DZOFilm Pictor Zooms 20-55mm T2.8 and 50-125mm T2.8 were used for this model video. Shot in BlackmagicRAW 8:1 compression at 4,608x1,920 for 2.4:1 aspect ratio. Edited and graded in DaVinci Resolve 17.

Some nice foliage shots coming from the Pocket 6K Pro. Sigma 18-35 since I wanted to stay small and compact for the tiny plane I flew in. Couldn’t have loaded the big toys on that without going overweight limits. Haha.

Video will be edited in over a week. But I’ll say I was pleased what I got off one card and the three batteries yesterday.

I have footage still from 8 years ago and the OG Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K. It’s amazing how far they have come on that span of time. May have to visit some of those locations for replication shots. But some of that is tough because so much does change in that time. Still 8-years ago they’re cameras were impressive. Now I’m excited to see where they go next after the good impression this camera provided.

Shot in a single uninterrupted take, DoP Michelia Kramer used her URSA G2 with the always and ever-present and reliable Sigma 18-35. The camera was hooked up to an EasyRig system, with the Tilta Nucleus M for remote focus (and subtle zoom) pulling.

Darko, have you Superscaled 2x using ProRes rather than CinemaDNG? I’ve come to conclusion that my next theatrical recording in December should be done with my Fujinon 7.8x20 BRM B4 mount. I can record 2048x1152 preparing ProRes for 2K 2.39:1 client deliverables. Recording in 4K isn’t an option but I’m curious if it’s worth Superscaling to master in 4K.

Original BMCC and BMPCC cameras are just continue to amaze me 8 years later...
It is not to say others are no great cameras, I rather find 2K resolution is all I really enjoy watching.
My findings are that bmpcc OG needs sharp lenses in order to look great in 4K along the super scale 2x as well as some denoising in Resolve.

I learnt now to work with DNG files only and no longer would use anything else, of coarse ProRes is also great but I see no point.

It is processing power and proxies and work arounds what stopped me from doing lot more earlier but now
with all the affordable M1 MacBooks as well as catching up to more friendly version of Resolve and FilmConvert plugin I realise that the original BMPCC and BMCC camera were 10 years too advanced for myself and many other enthusiasts in order to take advantage of DNG files.

It was double edged sword as it actually killed my creativity in a way, most of my best work was produced with Canon 7D (2008) and Old but legendary Cannon XL1 mini DV in 2005.

Blackmagic raw got me excited when it was announced but so many work arounds and at the time lack of skills in Resolve and way it was demanding in every way (for me) kind of took its toll.

I am now feeling that I am back to where I wanted to be 8 years ago but still feel like other BMD cameras are years ahead of the time.

To answer your question, yes I do think 2x Superscale when graded and applied carefully with help of Nitrate IMO is worth the trouble and way better option.

I do however tend to render ProRes as master file from DNG timeline before I render to MP4.
For example this file was like ProRes 2.3GB and got rendered to 20MB is what you are watching here in.

When grading DNG RAW files even in HD on 4K timeline I push my system to a limit and though i wish
that BRAW was implemented in this older cameras for this reason, but understand that this is whole another game.

I also found that close up shots with fast primes create magic with bmpcc run and gun where it struggle a bit on wide shots due to limited resolution.
LEICA 12mm f1.4 DG Summilux is one lens that anyone that owns bmpcc OG should rent and try it on.

Thanks for sharing those insights. I’ve thought about using CinemaDNG for the next video as I’m very familiar with it too, but if I do end up shooting ProRes, it will likely be ProRes XQ or ProRes 444 as the 12bit colour compares well to CDNG 12 bit. ProRes seems to help avoid the moiré that can surprise you sometimes. I have no input with the costume department on these productions so trying to play it safe.

Last year I upgraded to the Mac Pro and that’s also made processing any footage more manageable including he occasional effects. I did a Parfocal test of the Fujinon zoom today and did a DaVinci Resolve light grade (primaries only) in a minute after setting up the HDR project the new 1.3 version of ACEScct. If you haven’t discovered the ease of working with ACEScc/cct 1.3, it’s quite quick and uses an industry standard workflow. I enjoy grading everything for 1000 nits while respecting the industry practices regarding deliverable compatibility with SDR. Resolve now has super Colour tools to work with HDR. Others here are doing the same (well I’m sure they’re doing even better! to be honest given the talent that abounds on the forum).

ACES supports the Blackmagic Film Gen 3 that the URSA Mini 4.6K records so you know it’s using the right IDT.

Yes, Rick,I agree, ProRes 4444 on Ursa mini 4.6K I shoot that in 2K downsampled in camera.
As for pocket bmpcc OG I stay with RAW mainly because of heavier grading and matching shots later in post.

Digital video for Guerlain, shot with my URSA G2 and Leica Summicron C (PL) and Bronze Glimmerglass with my vario 5 and a slider.
Shot over the course of 1 day in one of guerlain facility, a speedy project.

Smallfootprint lights : astera titans, aputure 600Ds and Aladin Fabrics, BB&S Pipiline, a few tungsten fresnel for background bokeh.

Some shots are from the TVC campaigns (turntable packshots with liquid on the bottle) and the Vanilla being cut) these are from another shoot and not by me or the URSA. One day wouldn't had be enough.

Hello all,

This is something I shot with a 12k and a G2… This is less for the cinematography and more for what the camera did in this scenario.

The 12k was A cam and the G2 was B cam. Both has Canon still lenses, 12k with the 17-55 2.8 and the G2 with a 24-105 F4.

ISO on both was 1250 interior, 400 outside.

4k 16:9 BRAW on both, I believe somewhere around 8:1?

Raw footage was handed off, as well as a transcode pass with Buttery Luts. Not sure what they did in post.

I'm amazed how those Neewer lights held up on the stills.
