I shot this footage on a secret a beach in Norcal. I do not have filters or serious rigging equipment yet. I used a BMCC with a 70-200 with a 2X range extender and a 24-105. Some shots were filmed on a monfroto carbon fiber tripod with the matching video head the rest was hand held. I do need filters I just don't have any yet because this is my buddy's camera and I am waiting for the 4K. Im thinking the 82mm Heliopan Variable ND filter so i can just use reducer rings.



Comments good or bad are welcome. This was just for fun and I know my limitations so feel free to comment. I have not fixed the sun blow out yet because well I could solve it with DaVinci and i Don't have a decent compositor yet I would like to use Nuke X for this.

Hello Everyone! Long time reader, first time poster to the forums, here. I would like to get some feedback on my nature piece I did here in Georgia, USA. Any feedback is welcome! Shot on BMCC EF mount with Rokinon Cine 24mm T/1.5 lens. Eclipse variable ND.

Hi guys! I mostly put my videos on bmcuser but I think you guys will find this interesting and hopefully enjoy! Most of my recent videos have been shot with the LA7200 Anamorphic lens attached to a 11-16 mm. I really enjoy the look!

Here is my latest, extreme low light, RAW with the lens setup mentioned above!

My first small commercial shot with the BMCC. Done in one day (very short production). Edited with FCP.

Iam also testing my BMCC MFT since a week now.
I took some frame grabs from the last musicvideo we shoot just on top of a building.
The sun was burning so we started about around 8:30PM.
I didnt use a ND or IR cause i did not have one:( ...
Shot with Carl Zeiss Jena 2.8/20mm and Carl Zeiss Jena 2.8/50mm in ProRes.
Very surprised how fast the workflow is with ProRes.
And for the lenses , ill think the both Zeiss ones give great performance open and about 5.6.

This is ungraded. I'll just wondering if the Video2_Log LUT in the 3DInput Tab would give me a more flat image?
anyone worked with a LUT on ProRes?`

Shot with two BMCCs simultaneously. Loved the dynamic range shooting RAW, it made the extending and pushing of the exposure on the background extremely easy.
The workflow on-set also worked pretty well. As our DIT was backing up our shots and the Photo editor was networked and pulling stills directly into Capture One to match the photography shot the day before. He was loving having those DNGs available on the go.

Overall, an amazing image with a few camera quirks. Can't wait to try the 4K!

Just got my BMCC and finally got it out for it's first run! Shot completely handheld with no rig, but hoping to snag one pretty soon. If you have one to give away, I won't stop you from giving it to me.

I kid, of course...haha!

My first test of just arrived Blackmagic MFT. I espessially love the shots from Zeiss Planar 50mm

Just a wedding video.
We had 2 EF model's running. One with a Canon L f2.8 70-200 on it all day, and the other the Canon L f4 24-105, then at night we switched the 24-105 to the Rokinon 24mm. It was a very dimly lit room so that lens held up pretty well, the 2.8's not so much.
There is also 2 wide shots in there from the 5D we had set up to cover our asses, should be easy to pick out. The rest is all BMCC.

I feel Extremely inadequate posting stuff I have made after watching most of the other amazing videos on here. I live in a small town and very little opportunity to shoot anything at all so I have resorted to the "Film anything you can, if you love Filming" philosophy.

And so here is my latest video. I had fun making it regardless and I think others might find it pretty funny at times.




Filmed in DnxHD and DNG raw. Graded in Resolve with Hooks LUT and a bit of tweaking. The usual method.

Oh yea, and I recorded the audio directly to the camera (EF Model) with the Beachtech passive bmcc adapter instead of my h4n for testing purposes.

Hi Andrew, I have got a question, I look out for a 14mm lens but saw you shoot. The Sigma 11-16 seem verry sharp. Are you satisfy of this lens and what shots were taken with it.

This is my first shot with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.
I had a brilliant idea to take a snail and a pack of cigarettes, and i did a little advertising.
Shot with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K RAW 24fps with Tamron 18 - 270mm lens.

More low light / night test footage. Graded with Antler's FCPX LUT Plugin and added a film grain effect. the first shot is gross because of the artificial stabilization but I wanted to see what it would look like. All the footage is using available light except for the closeups of my friend, where I had a simple z96 LED on my rig.

This is done on the BMCC MFT and Voigtlander 17.5:

Here’s a montage film (I have to call it a montage film because calling it a “film” in my opinion is inaccurate). I shot at a Wildlife Preserve out in Long Island, NY. This place was always a beautiful but haunting place to me. I’ve fallen in love with this place so I went out by the water and shot this with my Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

And yes, that is the Empire State Building on the tilt up shot near the end. I was ABSOLUTELY AMAZED that you could see it (although barely) from the preserve. The location is approximately 30 miles from the Empire State Building. Amazing!

Armed with my BMCC (EF), a bunch of Samyang lenses (14mm, 24mm, 35mm), a Canon 50mm/1.8, some cheap NDs and a (crappy) CAVision IR Filter, I set out to shoot a short 5 minute movie for the Swiss Hotel Film Award. It had to be shot in two days, fortunately they never said how long those two days can be... and they were long...

The whole thing was shot in RAW, I ended up with around 150'000 frames of footage using 750GB of disk space.

I learned a lot of things about the camera, my equipment, my workflow and myself. Some of the bigger things were:

• The camera has a really hard time with lower light conditions (i.e. a hallway with only practical lights). I knew it would need light, but I was surprised at how much (even using 1.4 lenses).
• Not having SSD capacity indicators was a constant source of worry, but preemtively switching to a new 480GB/512GB SSD every half day worked fine
• Some of the Sandisk SSDs had (rare) dropped frames. I lost about 2-3 takes to that. I'll probably stick to OCZ going forward...
• The display on the camera was really absolutely completely useless. What you see is definitely not what you get... (if you see it at all, i.e. as soon as we went outside)
• The Cavision IR filter was absolute crap. It did not prevent any serious contamination. The Formatt set I got after (*sigh*) the shoot works MUCH butter.
• My (cheap) Ebay-rig needs to go the way of the dodo... spending some real money on a new rig is definitely worth it (we spent way too much time fumbling around with the rig.
• I need to figure out a decent strategy for backup and archival. The BMCC footage of all the stuff I shot so far is in the 4-5TB range and I'm just starting, so having upwards of 10TB is probably a must (and that not being a RAID is not an option, I'm paranoid)...

First music video i've shot with my BMCC (EF Mount). On set i used/hired an HDLink (with my LUT loaded on it) feeding a 17" Sony OLED monitor which allowed us to fine tune and make decisions based on what we were seeing at the time of shooting. The grade for the video ended up just being my LUT applied with a vignette here and there since i was able to get the look i wanted on set. Small crew and budget but happy with what we were able to do. Can't imagine shooting without a LUT now!

I really want to love this camera and have had it on pre order since day one..but again I look at the footage and just think "why does look so soft and out of focus!!!!"...

I keep telling myself that in the right hands with the right lenses and so on the camera will shine...but right now I feel like I might be better off sticking with my GH2 and investiging in the Sigma 18-35 with MFT speedbooster instead of the BMPCC!!

I'm not sure why you say it's soft since it looks pretty sharp to me (Are you sure Vimeo HD is on?)
I wonder if you're just used to DSLR VIDEO looking EXTREMELY sharp? This is Prores HQ,
I think when RAW is enabled you may complain even more,
This looks nothing like DSLR footage (Thank God) I know I like what I see from this footage,
Yes not every shot is in perfect focus, but overall it looks great.

I assume this could be down to shooting at 1.6 with a thin focus plane.???..

Regardless.. my gut reaction to most of the BMPCC footage out there so far is .......oh......

And don't get me wrong I am in the queue and looking forward to this camera...and I can see that all the footage has that "blackmagic" look and feel, I just know that I am not blown away by anything I have seen so far, and it definitely is not a million miles away from a hacked GH2...from a vimeo point of view anyways...

I think you answered your own questions with the bolded above. Super thin DoF/wide open + slightly off focus=soft image.

From what I've read, several SLR Magic lenses are definitely usable wide open, but sharp at ~2.8.

Since the price reduction i removed my 4k pre-order(55th in Paris) for the the BMCC and in a couple of days i was a happy owner of that product. Thank you BlackMagicDesign for that gift. I love you.


That said, i have a first video test with the wieldy stabilizer to share. I'm a goofy steadicamer so it's not perfect, hope you don't mind. I was out of focus when i tried to walk quick with a lot of parallax. I can't wait to practice more!

I may add some vfx one day! (or not)

I like your exposure (grade?). What lens did you use?

Unfortunatly i just have one lense the Zeiss Ze 50mm 1.4 with a Tiffen VariND Filter (looks like i have to take a deeper eye into that IRND thing...)

i did another one. I really love that cam! I just have a big problem with the screen because it sometimes very reflective/mirror like and i don't have any other solution that to trust my luck for the focus...

Finally made the decision and bought a BMCC, so here are the first shots I made over the weekend. Please enjoy this short clip with total randomness of subjects, from musicians, through deers, to tipsy friends:



Learnt a lot from these 3 days but nothing that I wasn't expecting already:

-the camera is amazing, my jaw dropped when I first opened the raw footage in resolve
-battery doesn't last too long
-its hard to set exposure on a reflective screen
-need to invest in ND filters
-Davinci Resolve doesn't need a monster computer to grade raw footage and is way easier to learn than I expected. If only it had sound editing.
