SSD around 120GB

Hi everyone,

Pretty much everything I will do will be ProRes. I don't need or want big ssds. I prefer switching them more often so in case a drive fails I don't lose so much of the footage.

Aja Data Calc tells me 100GB will hold about an hour of ProRes HQ, so this how big I want my ssds to be. The official FAQ only lists 2 SSDs in this range: Sandisk Extreme 120GB and the Kingston 128GB SSDNow V+100(which is discontinued).
The Sandisk is only approved for ProRes, but I think I would be nice to have the option to use Raw from time to time.

Is there a new version von the Kingston 128gb that works with the bmc? Or do you know an other SSD in this range that work?

Thanks.

I've got two Kingston HyperX 3K 120 GB SATA III 2.5-Inch 6.0 Gb/s Solid State Drive that I've used on the Blackmagic HyperDeck Shuttles for ProRes and its worked fine, so I'm hoping to be able to use them with my BMCC once it comes in

The problem with trying to get raw working on smaller drives, is that the 128GB ssds tend to have a fewer number of chips, for example a 128Gb would normally have half as many chips as its 256gb sibling (not half sized chips mind you, just half the chips) this significantly impacts performance. So no, you won't be able to do raw on 128gb ssd.

I have the same question. I want to buy SSD with around 120gb. I heard its only fit about 15 minutes shooting raw and its fine for me. Is there anybody could give any suggestion what's best SSD around 120Gb that could cover RAW as well? I'm thinking to buy Sandisk Extreme 120Gb or Kingston HyperX 3k 120gb. What do you think? Thank you

the sandisk extreme 120 will do raw but I have had frames drop at 30p. When i shoot in 24p raw I have never had a problem. Own three of them.

Jonathan, how much runtime are you getting on each on (in RAW)?

15 minutes exactly at 24p (plus some amount of seconds) I have no idea if any other settings other than fps would have an effect on that time.

also one more frame a second would be what? 5 extra mb/second?
