Zacuto Pro EVF vs. Cineroid SDI EVF

PostWed Feb 13, 2013 10:05 pm

Hello,

I'm looking to pull the trigger on an EVF for my BMCC. I really like the Zacuto Pro EVF but I'm not jazzed about having to rig and power a HDMI converter as well. A comparable SDI EVF seems to be the Cineroid offering. Does anyone have experience with the Cineroid as well as the Zacuto and could share some pros and cons? Also, does anyone know if Zacuto might have a Pro SDI version in the works?

Thanks a lot for you help.

PS- I've seen this comparison video
. I'm just looking for some more in the field hands-on advice.

Kindly,
Brett

For the BMCC I choose neither, Look at the Alphatron, I just ordered it and I'm not even sure
if I like it :D But HDSDI

I looked at the Cineroid but in the end went for the Alphatron and love it. Has both HDMI and HD-SDI.

Only issue I have with it it that the battery cover is not very well designed and comes off easily. Not really an issue as I often have a larger battery on it and then the cover does not fit anyway.

Adam,

Been wondering how I'm going to do this as well since I've got a Zacuto and a Marshall monitor that's strictly HDMI.

If you wire from the camera to the Alphatron EVF via SDI can you wire from the EVF to another monitor with HDMI and will there be any issues with the signal?

the Alphatron seems definitely like the Best choice for the Blackmagic.
from what I've tested - there is no comparison to the Alphatron. it's so sharp !

I believe the Alphatron only does HDMI to HD-SDI and not the other way around.

I did a quick test the other night and could not get it to pass the signal from an HD-SDI (from the BMCC) to the HDMI output.

I ended up going with the Cineroid EVF4RVW.

Have just been able to test it for a few minutes but I'll post back here with some notes soon.

I use the Cineroid EVF4RVW, I find it the best piece of kit ever bought besides the BMC, it works great, fast and has all the features you need.

It is fantastic as a small monitor in outdoor conditions (yes you can see clearly) as well as an EVF.

I'd definitely get the Cineroid. It's SDI natively. The Zacuto, you have to get a converter because it's HDMI only. The Cineroid seems like a MUCH better choice. Either that or the Alphatron. If you have all these things hanging off your camera, it's more complicated, heavier, and pulls more power from your battery.
