Active MFT mount ?

PostTue Feb 19, 2013 11:48 pm

I would like to get an idea when an active mft mount version of the blackmagic cinema camera can be expected?

The passive mount is a half cooked meal for me, so I will have to wait for the active mount version and I just hope that the fact that there are orders for the passive mount which are not yet fulfilled, won´t delay the introduction and release of the active mount when it is ready.

Any news are welcome.

I wouldn't expect to receive an active version... ever. Or at least in this model. They haven't even finished shipping to the pre-orders yet, so it'll be a long time until V2 BMCC is released.

Ordered EF mount from B&H on 08/19/12. Received on 04/12/13.

What your actually asking is when is the BMCC v2 comming out. 12 months, 2 years, 5 years, who knows?

There wont be 'news' on this for a very long time. If the current BMCC isnt good enough for you, buy a different camera.

@metaljesus

What??? How can you really believe that beside the active EF mount, the passive MFT mount is an equal V1? It is not, it becomes a V1 when it turns active. It was only quickly introduced after they realised the high demand for a MFT mount version, but they didn´t have the time to make it active at that point so they simply introduced an unfinished passive version to show the MFT supporters they will embrace that mount too.

The passive mount should also be priced a bit lower than the active one, but somehow too many customers accepted the passive mount and started ordering the V0.X for the price of V1 EF mount camera. Which was a stupid move we will probably all pay for with the delay of the real V1 active MFT mount camera now.

But there is still hope BMD is fair enough here and will not delay the active MFT Mount and play the game you play that pretends the passive mount was a V1 camera.

Not necessarily true, The more users who buy, and post insane looking films using the BMCC, the faster
BMD will produce the V2, If this camera gets over shadowed by a better/lower priced "Newcomer" (I won't mention any names ) The faster it will die, and we will die with it.

Haha yeah, not going to happen, Long Live BMD!, Die RED!... Just kidding James Jannard!

I believe it's version 1 because it's the first version they've released.

Good luck with your wait.

Darryl I often find it pretty hard to follow the logic in your posts.

A rational assumption would be that BMCC will release a v2 when their sales have significantly slowed down, which would most likely be due to the market need being filled, or a competitor product. Why would you release a new model when your current one is selling like crazy?

Of course that's assuming v2 would be at a similar price point. There would be room in the market for both if a v2 had specs to warrant a $5k price tag.

A non rational assumption is the downfall of us all, Yes sales matter 10 fold, but If BMD want's to be a leader in a lower cost Cinema camera (this was after all the reason they made the BMCC in the first place)
They will need to be/stay competitive
and make leaps and bounds with this great camera, The thought of BMD not having a superior and significant upgrade to the first version of this camera in 1 to 3 years is just ludicrous.

As far as price point...I would have paid $4500.00 for this camera as it is, I would have paid $7000.00
If they got it right in the first place, a super 35mm sensor, 60-120fps, and well..the dream goes on.

But having as many complaints about lenses not being able to focus at infinity is a real ball buster!

Enough said about that,
Final Thoughts???They need better QC, and We need to support them through the first version of this great camera if we want to see this kind of image, or better for this kind of low price in the future.

Cheers

In my opinion at first the MFT Mount is great to mount a wide range of lenses. Mostly for PL Mount, which always was my choice too, MFT is a good base and I really don't need any active version of it. Most top range lenses are manual anyway and the only reason for a electrical contact would be to transfer lens data as metadata.

Yeah sure and power the IS if present and use even more lenses that are not manual.
