Who can explain this please. This happens when I take the sun, and three cameras happened, entering the direct sunlight is transformed into a black point, I find that this is serious, someone knows it is and if you have solution, greetings from Chile

You have a weird black sun in Chile...

I think I found the solution to your problem though.

In seriousness, I hope they do address this in a future firmware update.

If you shot in raw, i think the highlight recovery option in resolve is meant to fix it (haven't tried yet myself). If prores, you will prob have to track and remove the dot in Ae/nuke/etc. Its a well known issue that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Can be fixed in resolve with a single node using the qualify tools. No need to even track it.

Are you just keying pure black? If you had something else pure black in frame you'd need to track a window with it too i guess?? Keen to hear what you're doing as i haven't had the issue to try deal with yet. :)

I don't have any footage to test with at the moment as I'm on Mud Island (aka England) and we've not see the sun for months... ;-)

If someone has a short clip that can upload or a DNG than I'll make a short blog post on how to fix it.

when shooting in film mode, you're likely never going to have anything hit as black as the highlight dot. maybe if shooting at night and you get it from a headlight or something. but shooting the sun (where it's most commonly seen), the flare alone will eliminate anything pure black.

sorry, I find that this is a serious problem, there is not always time for a post production as simple as taking a sunset, I think it is a serious problem of the camera such as dead pixels on footage low light and noise passing frequency of 1600 and 800 handles, make no mistake with the camera that has serious problems. I think we're guinea pigs with the camera, although satisfying several basic functions in defaults.

The RED One used to have a similar problem, which I believe was 1) due to the pixels overloading because the sun is so damned bright, and 2) was later fixed in firmware.
But it's no dealbreaker, you can certainly cover it over later on and with resolve's awesome tracking ability, it doesn't even seem like it'd be that big of a deal.

I recently noticed this on one of my shots too. Basically I just:

1. created a node with a circular power window a little larger than the spot
2. I "blew out" the black dot by raising the "lift" and/or other exposure settings
3. then I used the tracker so the power window would follow the black dot

It wasn't that hard of a fix... but hopefully it will be addressed in a firmware update.

Oh, and if someone knows a better fix... I'd love to hear it too! :D

Hope this helps!

Just experienced this myself... Is this something that can be fixed in firmware? Would hate to have to track and cover the little black dot every time I shoot the sun ..
