Komputer Bay CFast 2.0 Cards

Anyone got any experience using these?

They are rated faster than the Transcend CFX650's and almost half the price.

As know one gave me a response or had an hands on experience with the Komputerbay CFast 2.0 3700x cards I went and purchased one which I received today, I have been doing a few tests and on the Blackmagic Disk Speed Utility and on the write speed its performing better than the approved Transcend CFX650 256GB card I have.

Transcend CFX650 256GB - Read:533MB/s Write:421MB/s
Komputer Bay Professional 3700x 256GB - Read: 516MB/s Write: 439MB/s

I have also done a few tests the Komputer Bay Card in the URSA Mini 4.6

4.6k Raw 30fps - Rolled until card was full
4.6k Raw 60fps Dual Card (With the Transcend) - Rolled until full
4.6k ProRes XQ 25fps, both cards dropped frames after a minute or so

So it seems the performance is up there with the Transcend cards, I picked the Komputer Bay card up for £268.18 on Amazon compared to the £409.93 for the Transcend which is a steal for this performance.

Just checking back on Amazon the UK price has increased to £299 so it seems I did get a fairly good deal, we are yet to see how reliable it is.

James, good for raw then, but, interestingly failing on ProRes 444 XQ when the specs indicate it shouldn't have any problem with it. As we know, the specs are only half the story and testing is essential. Thanks for the feedback. Eventually BMD may pass these cards for raw, but perhaps not for ProRes!

My Transcend CFX650 fails on 4.6k ProResXQ too at 25fps and looking on the BM site the supported cards state supported on 4K ProRes 422 HQ (Up to 60fps) there is no mention of the cards supporting 4.6k XQ anywhere so what cards will roll this for longer than a minute or so??

I've had no problems with any codec flavour using the Wise 3400x CFast 2.0 256GB cards with the proviso that raw open gate 60 fps requires Dual Card recording. I don't think the price on those cards has changed over the last year though since I bought a pair in April for $650 USD each. Maybe it will fall later in the year. In my opinion, the cards are very good although on paper some of the newer cards may appear to be faster. At this point, I'd likely buy Wise again.

What cfast reader/interface (USB/Thudnerbolt?) are you using to do your tests? I get much slower results than this over USB3.

My BiWin 256GB cards reach around 426MB/s write speed (Blackmagic Disk Speed test via Lexar USB3.0), so they seem pretty similar to your Transcend ones. I haven't tested the Komputer Bay CFast cards, but they made very affordable, yet very fast Compact Flash cards (old CF) that rivalled Lexar ones, and everyone was using them for Magic Lantern RAW on the 5D Mark III.

What settings on the Disk Speed Test are you using? I've been using the 5GB one and I'm getting 360MB/s write on both the Transcend and the Komputerbay ones. If they are seems odd that two Transcends and a Komputerbay would all be much slower than they should be.

I bought one of these 256gb Komputerbay Cfast cards, and it seems to work pretty well.

I'm using a USB3 reader so not getting a maxed data rate reading on Blackmagic speed test, but it's showing as the same speed as my Transcend ones which have worked flwlessly for a year now.

Testing in the camera with the single Komputerbay card has shown these limits.
Full fat Raw is fine at 30FPS. At 35fps it will roll around a minute then start dropping frames. At 40 it'll roll about 15sec. At 60 it drops after a few seconds.

3:1 raw is fine at all framerates.

I'll do more roll tests later when I'm back home if anyone else is interested.

I'd say barring any long term issues that may spring up, I'm quite happy with it.

Full fat, semi- skimmed and skim, the three flavours of raw.

That's good news, hopefully all this competition will drive down prices, still seems the Komputerbay are still cheaper with slightly better performance, at least here in the U.K. anyway.

Wow thanks for sharing, I've never heard of EgoDisk but their 256GB CFast card is only $289 and specifically states that it supports 60fps 3:1 RAW writing from the URSA. Count me in considering the SanDisk 256GB (and Lexar going out of business) is $680 at the moment.

Plus a nice writeup here showing the performance being more favorable than the 2x priced SanDisk.
