How Are These Guys Re-Sellers?

PostFri Mar 08, 2013 3:05 pm

These guys in Miami shouldn't be authorized re-sellers. They are auctioning a camera on ebay:http://www.ebay.com/itm/BlackMagic-Design-2-5K-Cinema-Camera-EF-Mount-ON-HAND-SEALED-IN-BOX-NEW/310620538582?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=021&category=11724&cmd=ViewItem

But go to there website and it says the camera is back-ordered:
http://enhancedviewhd.com/index.php/black-magic.html

Blackmagic should revoke their authorization. I'm willing to bet that if I placed an order with them I would have to wait months for my camera. And this isn't the first time I have seen these guys auctioning the camera on ebay.

The tone of this thread and the original post is just wrong.

These guys are legitimate re-sellers and have every right to sell as they see fit. But again, the rabid behaviour continues.

Now, having said that, my partner was lucky enough to snag one of the two cameras they had in stock for sale today.
Before anybody cries foul or BS, you should know we pre-ordered 2 of these last year, but when the sensor nonsense started I pulled the plug and bought an FS700 (among other things). We are a production company that owns our own, plus rents alot of gear based on our clients needs.

We deal with all kinds of companies in this industry, some small, some very large, when my partner got off of the phone with these guys, he said it was one of the most professional people he had spoken to.
I started to snatch the phone just to say thank you when i saw the grin on his face!

I dont know enhancedviewhd for jack, never heard of them before today. Ive got no ulterior motives.

They are legit, and customer service was top notch today when we delt with them over the phone.

I think most people, including myself, assume than an 'authorised reseller' has made an agreement to sell the products in a certain manner, through certain channels, and at an agreed price. The word 'authorised' implies some commitment to agreed selling practices and responsibility for the integrity of the product and brand. Or at the very least Blackmagic is vouching for their integrity as a retailer.

I don't run a retail business so I could be completely mistaken about this, I think it's a fair assumption though.

These guys have now sold two cameras on ebay for well above the retail price ($4,240 and $4,200). That does not seem like a company that's honouring a commitment to agreed selling practices and taking responsibility for the integrity of the product and brand.

But maybe I'm wrong, maybe even 'authorised resellers' are all free agents and can do what ever they want. Maybe Blackmagic approve (they continue to sell them products, after all). It does make you wonder what's the point of 'authorising' resellers though.

I do know I'll never buy from a company that sells products at above retail prices simply because they can.

Defending those kinds of practices by saying they are nice people to speak with on the phone is really missing the point.

LOL somebody else will though its call supply and demand. You blame them for making a profit? :o People and their sense of entitlement amazes me. They could sell the camera for 6k I wouldnt care if somebody is stupid enough to buy a 100% markup 200% markup on a product thats their choice. Car dealerships sell above MSRP all the time if you are stupid enough to pay 75k for a 54K sports car that is your naiveness.

The distinction you're missing Brandon is that this is not some random guy flipping their camera to the highest bidder, it's being sold by an authorised reseller of Blackmagic products. The 'authorised reseller' title carries implications and responsibilities to the brand and customers, not just to profit.

Otherwise what is the point of having 'authorised' resellers?

You are completely mistaken

Hey fella, what I said was, we had completed a business transaction with this company, and that whoever my partner talked to on the phone, he felt like they were very professional. Do you understand the difference? And, you dont have a point, so it wasn't missed.

I guess you wont be buying much because it happens everyday. Its called a free market.

Fair enough. I can't state my point any clearer than I have.

I believe there are more influences on this than simply a free market. I would argue that being a pre-qualified retailer for a manufacturer is not actually a completely free market because you've agreed to certain ways of doing business (fair ones, which is what earns that pre-qualification).

Others disagree. Okay.
