Hi all,

I believe the 172.8 degree shutter angle option is specifically so as to avoid the horrible affects you get with lighting if you use the 180 degree shutter angle in countries like Australia where the power is 50Hz.

My question is in regard to whether this angle applies to both 24p and 23.976p.

Frankly I'm not sure what the main difference between 24 and 23.976 is either, and why I should shoot one or the other! I'm shooting a short film for submission to film festivals and am trying to decide on the best frame rate and shutter angle.

24 FPS @ 172.8 gives you the most flicker free but usually 180 is fine too.

23 is only for the silly Americans.

Thanks. That seems reasonable then to shoot at 24p. But if I send the movie to festivals in the U.S. will I need to convert it to 23.976p? Or is that just a format for TV?

And if it is just a format for TV, isn't that more of an issue now because even cinema projection is becoming more and more digital?

And output to Blu-Ray? Blu-Ray is ok with 24p?

The difference between 23/24 only matters in acquisition (and to know the differene in post)

It shouldn't affect or change your output or distribution.

Do you live in a 50hz country ? 24 is going to be fine for DCP or blu ray. For TV broadcast they simply speed it up 4%. There's a slight pitch change in audio. You can also get this pith corrected and its usually worth while if there's a well known actors voice.

I don't enough about audio to be sure.

But that's what happens in this part of the world to every 24 frame originated title. Including studio films.

I'd rather that than the dogs breakfast of 24-->30

Hi.
Currently Im working on a project that will be shot next moth in Europe and America, 50/50.
I've never shoot outside europe. So i would preciate any help or tips base on expereince you guys may have.
This footage will go on DVD and broadcast, both in us and uk.
