Is a "gasket" what I need for 5x5" filter?

Hi there,

this is a noob question, as I never has a matte box before. But now I do and have a 5x5" ND-filter as well for the filter tray, but the filter is a bit too small to fit in without being shaky, so I guess I need a fitting gasket for it. If so would anyone experienced please point me towards a way to purchase one*, as my search didn't reveal suitable results.

Thank you!
Thomas

*to make bad things worse I'm in Perth/W.A. right now, so I suppose it will be hard to find such a thing in stores here...

Any filter tray should fit the filters they are made for, problem is not all filter trays are made to standards, What brand "NAME" of Matte Box/Trays did you buy?

There is some "play/room" with filter trays to allow for easy removal and extraction, but if there are gaps big enough for light leaks, then you have a bad tray.

Oh I see, thanks a lot, Darryl!

I got a really cheap Matte Box II from owdolly dot com, the filter works the way it is now, I just expected it to fit more tightly, but there's no light leakage.

You can always gaff tape the edges a bit to get it to fit more snugly. Or another thing I've done with some of these little plastic "100mm" filters for my 4x4 Arri MB is use weather stripping for doors/windows around the edges to get it to sit more snugly.
