Had BMD discontinued the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera? I can't find it listed in their product line up on their website.

I can't find it either. It was there a few days ago.

I saw it there yesterday. Sunday April 15, 2018.
Mark this date.

The King is dead, long live the King.

I now own a piece of history.

I guess they figured sales would plummet or the manufacturing pipeline wasn't viable at this point. I would have thought they'd keep selling it otherwise until the new Pocket was actually available.

Given the low price of the original Pocket people might still buy who need it for current projects (and who knows if they'll be delays pushing beyond September). Of course perhaps the used market it getting flooded in anticipation.

I still have ongoing projects that aren't waiting until September (or later) so I'm not selling mine. It's still making me money.

I guess people could buy the Micro which is still available.

It may be still in stock at some of the larger retailers like B&H, look for a price drop from them? BM had it listed until yesterday at the bottom of the new Pocket 4K main page. Now it is gone! :(
Long Live the new King :!:

- I think BM withdraw stocks of all original Bmpcc to update it with new S16 4k sensor, Prores Raw and new back with swinging 3.5" screen.)
No other resonable ideas.

I'm keeping my pocket anyway so it will be immortalize. Other than that, I'm looking at buying up to 3 of the new BMPCC4K and will likely retire my URSA. With an SB, I am hoping that the BMPCC4K will have a better punch than the URSA and even the UMP, plus a size factor almost like the BMCC which I really liked.

Sounds like a premature burial to me. Products do disappear from the BMD website, but still remain available at retail.

Yes, I've seen that too. But when stock is gone, it is gone forever.

It shall be thoroughly missed. Until I'd get my hands on a new 4K model of course. But I still love the little bugger. ;)

Probably used prices on the Pocket and BMMCC will go a little bit up given how nice and cinematic is the image these can give.

If BM slips on the PCC4k ship date and PCC stock runs out, I think that might be the best time to sell your PCC.

that Sony sensor is quite good but it will not give you the same cinematic rendition of the BMPCC/BMMCC...

I've heard that said before, but it has not been my experience. I have three Sony cameras and two BM cameras, and I have no problem mixing and matching them. I do it all the time. I've challenged people to tell me which shot was made with which camera. So far no takers. Capturing in UHD and then down res in post appears to make a big difference.

Five years. In camera years. But that’s like 100 human years! So a very long life for that little camera that could. Makes me shudder since it’s been three years since my beloved URSA Mini 4.6K was announced.

Yes rick, and it's not just cameras, it's lights, gimbals, and even lenses to a small degree. A very expensive hobby if you want to stay current.

Then you're probably asking the wrong people. Or the grades are so general that the differences are lost in the finished product.

It's true footage from one camera can be made to resemble another, but there is a distinct difference between what BMD cameras produce and the Sony line. Any reasonably experienced shooter or grader should be able to point it out.

John, so far my grades have been very general. But on my current project I think I'll be pushing the grade to fit the narrative. So maybe the difference will become obvious then.
