Ultra Scopes not working

can't get Ultra Scopes to work, it 'says':

Startup Failed
UltraScope could not configure the capture hardware.

I am running on a retina MBP 15 inch, with Intel HD Grahics 4000 built-in, the additional cinema display has NVIDIA GT 650.

Why does this not work, it should do the trick?

Did you install the standalone version of UltraScope or the version that comes with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera Firmware? If you're running the standalone version, uninstall it, and install the BMC software (found on the support site).

Is Mac OS detecting the camera (About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Thunderbolt)? If not, try reinstalling the BMC software, restarting, and if that fails, try another Thunderbolt cable.

I have the version that comes with the install cd, I used the mini USB, I think that's the mistake, I probably need to use the TB.

Yes - the USB port is only for firmware updates and verrrrrrrryyyyyyy ssllllloooooowwwww charging.

You need to use the Thunderbolt cable for UltraScope and Media Express.
