Hi!

Got up at 4am this morning high up in the mountains, and had spent both time and effort to be able to shoot dawn with the BMCC

Took me 15 minutes to get the SSD to be 'ready', and by then most of the good light was gone.
Happened later also. When I plugged in the Switronix battery pack it worked fine, but I'm not sure if it was because of this or because the camera was getting normal temperature. It was about 0 degrees celsius at dawn.

I have the SanDisk 480GB, exFAT formatted, if this matters.

Anyone had the same problem?

Was your camera already at 0c?

The cold kills batteries. Literally it you leave them there long enough. If you camera was sitting in the cold for a long time, your internal battery would have suffered.

Curious, why did you wait so long to plug in your switronix?

Don't know how cold the camera was, but it was about 0 degrees outside.
Yeah, I know it's not good for batteries to be too cold, but it still showed 25% (for a long time) and 10% before I connected the Switronix.

Just don't know how low battery could affects the SSD getting connected or not.

I should say that I didn't connect the Switronix at dawn, not until it happened again later.
At dawn it was okay after a 15min struggle, and the only thing working then was to hold the camera in a specific angle and press the play button for some reason..

What SSD are you using?

Wrote the name in the first post, it's the SanDisk 480GB Extreme, which I've read here on the forum is probably the most reliable SSD with the BMCC.

The Sandisk is one of the best, but needs some sort of puffer, so not to wiggle around. The slot is made for all types of ssd but the sandisk is one of the thinner ones. I put two self-adhesive rubber pieces on the ssd so it sits straight in.

The Sandisk Extreme G25 SSDs are 9.5mm which I had assumed didn't need extra padding like the 7mm SSDs to keep it motionless. Thanks.

My Sandisk Extreme 480 doesn't move at all when inserted. If I leave the SSD door open and shake the camera, it doesn't move either. If I grab it with my fingers and try to push and pull it, I can get it to wiggle a little bit, but that would be stressing the connection.

I mean, these are CF cards that have rails to slide in on, so I think there is always going to be some room for play. I find the Sandisk Extreme to be pretty snug as is.

Yeah, the SanDisk does seem to fit in nicely.

Just hope none of the connection pins has any damage, but can't see any faults on either the BMCC pins or the SSD.

The Samsung 7TD500 is just 6.8mm thick, which makes it wiggle around without padding .... but works (for ProRes) like charm .....

Took the camera with me on a hike in the mountains today, still had the same problem when I was about to shoot the sunset. Not too cold outside, maybe 7-8 degrees celsius.

Could it be because of moisture in the camera?

Don't really understand this. Seemed to me that the solution was to plug in a Switronix charger, same as last time, but can't see how this should affect it at all. The camera showed 25% left of battery when the problems started happening.

Just wondering if someone who hasn't seen this post yet knows what the problem could be?

Have you called BMs support? That would be the logical step at this point...

Nah, I shot for 3 weeks under much lower temperatures and worse conditions without a single hickup.
